This Maserati Sebring GTIS for sale in Oregon was brought to our attention from our reader Sal and is a stunning, late chassis number example. These 2+2 coupes were derived from the 3500GT as a homage to the marque's win at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Designed by Vignale and built on a shortened wheelbase, this particular Sebring has the 3.5 liter inline six under the bonnet.

After much consternation, I’ve decided to put my 1964 Sebring I up for sale. It is a very late one with a body number of 324 out total production of 355. The VIN is AM101.02099. It was originally delivered to St. Louis, Missouri on March 20, 1964. It has U.S. gauges with a speedometer in MPH. The speedometer reads 23,581 miles which may or may not be correct. I’ve put less than 1000 miles on it in the 6 years of my ownership and the previous owner put less than 100 miles in his 6 years of ownership.

When I purchased the Sebring all four floor pans had some rust in them. Evidently, water had collected on the floor pans in the past and had been left standing for a period of time. All the metal on the front and rear floors pans and inner rockers were replaced with heavier gauge sheet metal. The floor pans were beaded as per original for additional strength. All replaced metal surfaces were coated with POR-15 before being painted satin black.

The body was painted a single stage polyurethane red. Many pieces of chrome trim were re-plated. This is one of the few that had factory installed over-riders on both bumpers. The interior was essentially missing and needed to be acquired. Original seats and door panels were procured, but didn’t exactly fit (hand built cars, of course). A lot of fabrication and modification was required for a perfect fit. All surfaces were recovered in the original PAC 1544 Connolly off-white leather. The carpets were fitted with high quality black Rolls Royce Wilton wool. The headliner was replaced as were the dash covering, the transmission cover and the rear package shelf. The hood and trunk lid bottoms are covered in black diamond stitched material as are the saddle gas tank covers and the front trunk section. The trunk floor is also covered in black Wilton carpet.

The original Borrani RW3823 16x6” original wire wheels (all 5) were polished and fitted with a new set of 215x65 radial tires and tubes for good drivability. The engine is a 3500cc with Weber 42DCOE8 carburetors and the correct air filter. The radiator has been refurbished and the water pump has been recently rebuilt. The transmission is the original ZF S5-17 5 speed. It shifts nice and crisp. The rear end ratio is 3.77 The original front shocks have been restored and a new heavy duty sway bar and polyurethane bushings installed. The suspension and undercarriage are detailed. The water temp, oil pressure and ammeter gauges have been restored.

This is a very nice looking and driving Sebring. It still has a few issues that need addressing. This Sebring will be in Monterey, California from August 14-17 and will be shown at Concorso Italiano on the 16th. I also have a 1967 Mistral 4.0L with wire wheels for sale. Too many cars, too little time!

A little under 600 Sebrings were produced over seven years. Currently they are bringing in the neighborhood of $60,000 to $100,000. This car has a reserve above $70,000, but is well presented, has a great history and has been well sorted with exception of a few minor issues. I would wager to guess somewhere in the neighborhood of $80,000 to $90,000 would be enough to seal the deal.

The Maserati Indy 4.7 we featured last month is still for sale by it's owner Matthias. The Indy was sort of a dual purpose vehicle. Designed by Vignale, it was meant to replace the Mexico and four-door Quattroporte. These days, the Indy is a good choice for those seeking an old school V8 Maserati on a relative budget.

Full documentation, clean US-Title AND Mexican Title. Car was sold new in Italy in 1972 and imported into USA/New York to a lawyer in 1977. Sold and imported to another Lawyer to Mexico-City in 1981, sold to Monterrey (Mexico) in 1986, changing owners there two times over the years and finally sold to Saltillo, Mexico to actual owner in 2006 and actual located in Laredo, Texas, USA (close to port of Houston, interesting for Export).

She is in excellent conditions because she was stripped 10 years ago down to scratch, to be repainted from base. The restauration was completed with new weatherstrips and rubbers and hoses etc. while trying to keep her as originally as possible. She is not welded! No Rust. She has never seen salty coast areas, always has lived in dry climate. Of course she never had an accident. Mechanically she is also very good due to the low kilometers and care. Interior is in excellent condition and mostly original, see pics.

She just got a "Big Inspection" with all fluids changed and all adjustments (including valveplay) made. Ready to drive. Please ask any questions in German (my origin), English or Spanish, my French is unfortunately bad 🙂

The car is sold privately and I offer you of course an independent opinion for this car, if you like 🙂 As told, the paperwork is clean and the car has a fully documentation since born. The car is sold now, because she was stored for some years in a dry garage without driving her due to family reasons, and finally this gave the idea of selling her now into good hands. It would be great to have her back on the street with someone who loves her.

At $61,000, this is pretty much spot on for what these vehicles are trading hands for today in decent condition. Only 1,100 of these coupes were ever produced, which gives you exclusivity that rivals some of the pricier Italian classics.

1972 Maserati Indy – REVISIT

Our reader Matthias touched base with us and informed us the Maserati Indy we featured this time last year is back up for sale. These Indys are an uncommon sight when it comes to vintage Maseratis. This particular example has an interesting provenance and wears an eye popping color befitting a 1970s motor. The seller is asking $59,000, a figure that is negotiable, but not unrealistic for a car of this caliber.

The below post originally appeared on our site May 29, 2012:

This past weekend marks the 96th running of the Indianapolis 500. One of the most storied events in motor racing, this race has seen dynasties amongst drivers and manufacturers come and go. Few, however, might be aware that Maserati won this race two times on the trot, in 1939 and 1940. The winning car was the 8CTF, with a three liter, 8 cylinder supercharged engine. Driven by Wilbur Shaw, the car was nicknamed the "Boyle Special" in honor of the US sponsor of the team. Maserati almost won again in 1941, but a rear wheel broke loose with 62 laps to go and put the car out of the race.

About 30 years on, Maserati paid homage to these race wins by naming its new sports car after the event. The Indy was a four place, V8 engined coupe positioned under the Ghibli and designed to take over for the Mexico and Quattroporte. This example for sale in Texas is an older restoration with the 4.7 liter engine.

1972 Maserati Indy

Here for sale is a 1972 Maserati Indy, 18,358 original miles with the big "rare" engine for this model/year: 4.7L, V8. Comes with a complete History. I'm helping a friend to sell his car, so I will try to describe the best possible. Options: 4.7L; with 4 webbers; A/A; 5 Speed Manual Transmision; original and fresh weather stripping; leather interior in perfect condition.

History: 1972 to 1977 in Italy; imported to USA in 1977 owned by one person until 1981. Sold and imported to Central Mexico for the owner until 1986; sold and owned from 1986 to 1990; sold and owned from 1990 to 1992; sold and owned from 1992 to 1996; sold and owned from 1997 to 2006; and owned from my friend from 2007 to present. The Maserati in in Texas now for sale. Having all documents and names of all owners. Restoration was done in the late 1990's keeping its originaty.

The seller claims that this car has the "big" engine, but in fact, Maserati offered the even larger 4.9 liter V8 in the Indy starting in 1971. It was detuned to 320 horsepower, 15 less horsepower than what was offered in the Ghibli at the time. This older restoration is showing signs of age. An Indy in perfect condition may command anywhere from $50,000 to $70,000 depending on the robustness of the market, so I would suspect this example may net around $40,000 to $45,000. This car could benefit from some attention towards trim items and a little freshening up of the engine bay. Then you would have a driver in good condition that would be worthy of the odd show and display event.

The below post originally appeared on our site November 22, 2012:

The Maseratis of the 1960s were some of the most epic designs in automotive history. Their influence on the current lineup is still evident to this day, with cars featuring subtle cues from the past. The Sebring was derived from the 3500GT as a homage to the marque's win at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Designed by Vignale and built on a shortened wheelbase, this car was powered by the 3.7 liter inline six engine. This car for sale in New Jersey is a Series 1 and in its time, was one of the fastest cars on the road.

1964 Maserati Sebring 3700 GT - First Series. Rare, historic Italian sportscar. Classic Italian craftsmanship. This car is an exotic and rare piece of automobile history, named after Maserati's 1957 racing victory at the 12-Hour Race in Sebring, Florida. The Sebring, designed by Alfredo Vignale, was based on the popular 3500 Coupe, and manufactured between 1963 and 1969. These 2+2 grand tourers had a limited production of just 348 First Series units ever created. They were powered by the fuel-injected 3.5 liter inline six, with this example featuring the 3700 liter engine, the 5-speed ZF gearbox and all the luxury and performance you could want from a 1960's Italian sportscar.

This particular vehicle, VIN #10102113, is number 330 of the 348 First Series Sebrings produced, with matching engine and chassis numbers, and documentation from Maserati Classiche in Modena, Italy. Other features include: Original tubular frame, handbuilt body by Vignale of aluminum and steel, original signed Nardi wheel, over 235 HP with original Lucas fuel injection, 5-Speed ZF German transmission, original Borrani wheels, original type Pirelli Cinturato 195/16 tires, dual rear fuel tanks, dual Lucas fuel pumps, original Carello headlights, Girling brakes with a power assist Unit, 4-Wheel disc, orignial Jaeger gauges in Italian, Scottish 'Bridge of Weir' leather interior by Master Upholstery, Wilton carpet, British suspension, steering and rear, fuel injection was rebuilt by Kinsler of Michigan, original Auto Clima Air Conditioning, Maserati car cover and original service manual. Completely restored vehicle, 147 mph Touring Car: Mileage: 45,255.m / 72,831.km

These vintage Maseratis are now appreciating rapidly and becoming very hard to find. This car is an excellent investment opportunity while also allowing you to enjoy the elegant styling and performance of a classic Italian sportscar. The Sebring is a beautiful example of Italian design: well-built, with style and sophistication, and would be a great addition to your classic car collection. Vehicle is subject to prior local sale while listing is still active.

A little under 600 Sebrings were produced over seven years. Today, these cars usually bring somewhere between $65,000 to $100,000. This car is priced way above the norm, but it does have a lot going for it. If it were an original car, we might see a value hovering towards $125,000 but not much more. This car is numbers matching with documentation, but it has been restored. As they say, they're only original once. At best, this is about a $100,000 car.

The Sebring was another great machine in a long line of grand touring cars from Maserati. With their historic win at the 12 hours of which this car was named after, this coupe with a 3.7 liter inline six cylinder engine and Lucas direct engine was wrapped in handsome bodywork by Vignale. Based on the 3500GT chassis with a shortened wheelbase, this coupe was produced from 1962 through 1969. This 1963 Sebring for sale in California is a matching numbers example that looks stunning in red.

1963 Maserati Sebring

I am pleased to offer my 1963 Maserati Sebring Series 1 3500GTI for sale. It is a matching numbers car with the original Lucas fuel injection installed and in excellent mechanical condition. Power assisted Girling 4-wheel disc brakes and a 5-speed ZF gearbox makes for a wonderful driving experience. It runs and drives extremely well and it has been recently restored to a high quality driveable and "showable" condition. Over $32,000 recently spent making this a stunning example. A Vignale bodied 3.7 liter inline six with twin plug head design producing 255 HP. Only a limited production of 348 built from 1963 -early 1965. A very rare car and considered by many to be one of the finest examples of Vignale coachwork. It is my personal favorite of the Maserati 6 Cylinder GT cars.

Serviced, tuned, overhauled cooling system, steering, and complete new two stage paint along with 95 % of the chrome has been replated. All new Italian black leather front and rear completely correct in style and condition. Everything works except for clock which does sometimes. Fast and smooth, running on the period correct original Pirelli 185/16 tires and although very old still look and work great. I would suggest that a new set be installed if the new owner chooses to drive it often. If you are seriously considering a Maserati GT for your collection this one should be at the top of your list. The 3500GTI cars are becoming the new darlings for the astute collector. Rugged, well built fast and great handling makes for a very usable sports GT. Parts are readily available through Maserati source and MIE. If you are serious and have relevant questions please contact me at 805.969.7289. Martin and this car is for sale locally and may be subject to a previous sale. Thank you for looking at this listing.

With just under 600 produced, the Sebring isn't terribly rare amongst 1960s Italian grand touring machines. Current market values peg the Sebring between $70,000 and $90,000 in good condition, so this example is pushing the envelope a bit at close to six figures with its reserve not yet met. This Sebring is certainly in good condition, but will it be enough for someone to go the distance on the bid?

1968 Maserati Mexico

For those thinking a Ferrari or Lamborghini may be a bit too brash, Maserati has always been a more subtle choice for people seeking style and speed. The Mexico appeared in 1966 and was a handsome four place coupe with lines penned by Vignale. This car has the larger 4.7 liter, quad cam V8 with 290 horsepower and was the first Maserati to feature four wheel disc brakes. This Mexico is for sale in Connecticut was originally delivered to a Spanish customer. It isn't a concours example, but is a car worthy of being driven and enjoyed.

1968 Maserati Mexico

1968 Maserati Mexico 4.7 Coupe Red with a black interior.Numbers matching 4.7 engine with power steering. Odometer shows 17,000 kilometers, the motor was rebuilt by Maserati in the late 1970's and the odometer was set back to zero at that time, I do not know the exact kilometers on the car. The car was originally sold into Spain in April 1968 and then purchased from Spain and brought to the USA by the customer I got the car from, he owned it since the early to mid 1980's. I believe the car may have had only 3 owners from new. It has always been on the road and driven regularly. It runs out very nicely and feels great on the road, everything works execpt for the air conditioning which I didn't try to charge. The car has good paint with cracking in some areas and chips in various places but there isn't any rust showing on the body and the underside is solid and dry. The chrome is coming off the rear bumper. The windshield has some scratches from the wiper. The interior is in nice shape with what looks like new seat bottoms to the seats but it does not look out of place with the rest of the interior.

The above information about the engine rebuild was confirmed in an email from Maserati which also told me the original color was Grigio Milano and the interior was black leather. This is a very nice driving example of a very rare to find vintage Maserati. You could leave this car as it is and enjoy it for many years, they only made 250 of these and they are not going to go down in value. The reserve is very reasonable. This car comes with a factory owners manual as well as a factory shop manual. I have the rubber strip for the rear bumper guard and I have a wiper blade on order for the passenger side.

Car is located in northwestern Connecticut about 75 miles north of New York City. If you have questions you can email me thru ebay or call 860-350-1140. The car comes on a transferable registration which acts the same as a title and will allow you to register the car in any state or export the car. There are many more detailed photos located at forzamotorsports with the usual com ending I recomend that you take the time to study these photos if you are seriously interested in this car. International buyers welcome I can help set up shipping to any part of the world. Thank you for looking at my listing.

A Mexico in good condition will usually bring somewhere between $50,000 to $70,000. I'd guess with this car's patina, we might be looking at a $50,000 to $55,000 car. With just shy of 300 built, these are very rare cars. For someone looking to get their feet wet into exotic Italian machinery, these coupes represent a pretty good value in comparison to other sports cars from the period.

1968 Maserati Mexico

In the 1960s, Maserati was making a name for itself with its stylish and luxurious touring coupes. These cars were very advanced for their day, capable of high speed and equipped with advanced technology for the era. Styled by Vignale, the Mexico was the successor to the 5000GT. Initially available with a 4.7 liter dual cam V8, a smaller 4.2 liter, this car for sale in California has the smaller, 4.2 liter engine made available later in the production run.

305 Produced, Maserati Mexico chassis number AM112*328*. Fitted with a 4.2-litre engine, Colour: silver, Interior: black leather. Constructed in June 1968 and sold in Italy to Sig Carlo Petrini of Bastia in Umbria. Dash facia covered with wood paneling, Borrani wire wheels, ZF 5-speed gearbox, Power Steering.

At a little over $57,000, the asking price for this Mexico is pretty much spot on with where the market is on these cars today. Many of these classic Maserati grand tourers represent a fantastic way to get Ferrari or Lamborghini like performance and style for a fraction of what you would pay for those other, more famous Italian classics.

1970 Maserati Indy

Designed to take over where the Mexico and Quattroporte left off, the Maserati Indy had the appearance of a stretched version of its stablemate, the Ghibli. Offered with either a 4.2 liter or 4.7 liter V8 for the 1970 model year, these coupes were named in honor of Maserati's two Indy 500 victories. Over a six year production run, a little over 1,100 of these coupes were produced. This 1970 example for sale in California is equipped with the 4.2 liter engine, 5-speed manual gearbox and a classy color combination of black over tan hides.

1970 Maserati Indy

I am pleased to offer my 1970 4.2 Liter Indy coupe with 5 speed manual and powersteering. It was imported from Italy (Milano) in the 1980s and the car is in very good condition. The engine was completely overhauled and recently finished after the restoration project stalled for a few years. It literally has only 15 miles on the new engine and is presently being run in. Smooth and powerful the new engine will be even better after a brief break-in period. The front suspension is new along with a long list of mechanical upgrades and rebuilds. All systems are working and it is a wonderful driving car. I have many receipts for the restoration work done in the past.

The interior has been completely redone in beautiful italian leather and wool carpets and is stunning in every way. The 4.2 engine was the only engine offered in the 1969 and early 1970 Indy and it is a very strong and reliable unit reving to 5600rpms and getting over 22 mpg. A total of 1136 Indys were produced from 1969 thru 1973 and the later cars featured the larger 4.7 and 4.9 engines to offset the impending emission controls. Black is the original color for this car and the tan leather interior is virtually new in every respect. As Maserati GT car's values rise to well over $100,000.00, the Indys are catching the attention of collectors due to their build quality, fluid lines and comfortable and usable rear seat area. There are many cheap unrestored Indys out there and they will cost as much as a Ghibli to restore so best advise is to find a solid and well sorted example while they are still affordable. This is a numbers matching car and is refinished in the original solid black paint. New exhaust and detailed front suspension and very clean chassis.

In comparison to the Ghibli, values on Indys are typically not as stratospheric. The best example of an Indy may bring between $50,000 to $60,000, and I would suspect this car's reserve price is hovering around that range. The color combination, condition and newly rebuilt motor are sure to appeal to collectors looking to procure an example of a lesser known Italian exotic.

1963 Maserati Sebring

The 1960s were a time of transformation for Maserati. Not only did this decade bring a transfer of ownership from the Orsi family to Citroën, but the company shifted its focus from competition to road cars. The Maserati 3500GTSi, better known as the Sebring, employed much of the mechanicals of the 3500GT wrapped in seductive bodywork by Carrozzeria Vignale. With a 3.5 liter inline six and mechanical fuel injection, the Sebring could reach just shy of 140 miles per hour and scoot to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds. This Sebring is for sale in Washington state and is in need of some minor fixes and TLC to bring it back to its former glory.

1963 Maserati Sebring

1963 Maserati Sebring (3500GTIS) Rare car, 1 of 350 series 1 models produced. Car is numbers matching originally purchased in Switzerland. It is in good driver condition to be used as is or to take it to the next level with a full restoration without the search for any new parts. Motor starts right up and runs strong. Starting to get a little timing chain noise so it will have to be tightened up and looked at some point in the future (put Maserati Sebring 1 in you tube search) Car has only been driven about 300 miles since this video was taken 3 years ago. Odometer was working up until recently but around 93,00Km it started jumping in random increments of 1000Km or more so something is stuck in the odometer. Currently it shows 11088Km. Converted to 3 dual sidedraft Webers. Still have the lucas fuel injection parts which will be included but would have to be rebuilt.

Interior is in great shape with the exception of the leather in the rear window which has shrunk and will need to be reconditioned or replace. Passenger side electric window works sporatically. Body has paint bubbles in the rocker arms and some rust and there is a crack in the front hood area which is not that uncommon for a 50 year old hand built body. Car has been repainted to the current color from what I understand in the late 70's, the original factor color was to of been silver. Was featured in viale Ciro Menotti issue 89, Car Toys 2006 calandar, winner of Sports Car Magazine Spirit of Motoring Award (best driver) Italian Concourse d'Elegance 2005, 2nd in class Italian Concourse d'elegance 2007.

This is a great looking grand touring machine that was ahead of its time in performance. It cuts a bit more of an athletic pose than the related 3500GT and many of the styling cues were carried on to subsequent Maserati models. While this example is sporting Weber carbs, at least it has the original parts for the fuel injection. High values for Sebrings can hover in the $75,000 to $95,000 range. If this car could be had for under $60,000, it would be good buy and give the new owner some breathing room to carry out the fixes this car needs and deserves.

1967 Maserati Mexico

The 1960s were exciting times for Italian sports cars. The decade saw the birth of such icons as the Lamborghini Miura, Alfa Romeo Spider and Ferrari Daytona. We also saw the introduction of some fantastic touring vehicles, such as the Maserati Mexico. This car came about in a roundabout fashion. Upon crashing their 5000GT, a Mexican customer shipped their car back to Italy where it was given a special Vignale penned body, and was called the Mexico. Exhibited at the Turin Salon in 1965, the car was later seen coincidentally as a celebration of Maserati's Formula One victory at the Mexican Grand Prix the following season. Available with either a 4.2 liter or 4.9 liter V8, this four seater could reach over 150 mph. This Maserati also had the distinction of being their first car fitted with factory four wheel ventilated disc brakes, an amazing advancement for the time. This particular Mexico, for sale in the outskirts of Berlin, Germany, could be described as a driver with freshening throughout the years.

1967 Maserati Mexico

A highly elegant 4-seater GT coupe and should V8 engine to the upper class in the splendor of the Maserati brand shine even more. A total of 482 vehicles of this type were produced. The Maserati Mexico on offer is it is one of the vehicles that were equipped with the 4.2 liter engine. For years, the car has been lovingly cared for and maintained. In 1999 the vehicle got a new motor and in 2006 a further restoration. A few years ago the paint was renewed. The leather has a fine patina and still seems to be entirely original. Key to start the rotation, and a powerful V8? The car sounds perfect. Electric windows, classic vehicle.

The asking price of €59,750 (~ $75,800) is about in line with lesser known Italian classics from Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati itself. I really admire this car because it has a nice patina, inviting a new owner to use this car as it was intended, rather than simply hide it away for investment purposes. Whether it is blasting down an Autobahn or going for a jaunt down Rt. 1 on the California coast, it would be nice to see such a nicely preserved, but used, example go to a loving home.
