1975 Lamborghini Espada Project

Over the past few years, major automobile manufacturers have "pioneered" a new concept; the Grand Coupe design. Cars like the BMW M6, Audi RS7 and Mercedes-Benz CLSs have seen a return of the swoopy lines with, in the case of the Audi, a practical hatchback design. But this concept really isn't new at all; personal luxury coupes have been around for some time, and one of the best has to be the Lamborghini Espada. Room for 4 plus luggage, a fabulous V12 soundtrack and great looks make this one of the most desirable classic Lamborghinis made in my mind:

I am reluctantly selling my 1975 Euro Espada. In 2002, I was perusing Hemmings and saw this car was being sold, and as it was only 4 blocks from my house, how could I not go and at least take a look. When I went to look at it I found it was a Euro market car. This meant it had the small chrome bumpers, no emission controls, and the dual alternator setup. It also had the euro side markers/turn signals and no ugly Federal corner lights. I much prefer the interior layout of this S3, but I admit that not having the earlier style Miura wheels is a drawback. The story I was told by the seller was that his dad bought the car new in Italy where he was living at the time. His dad relocated to Texas where it remained until 2001 when his son drove it to California. I have a clear Texas signed and undated title. I never signed it or registered it in my name. I assume that if you are reading this you have some knowledge about this model, and Lamborghinis in general. They are not for the faint of heart or the casual wrench. Parts and/or service are VERY expensive.

Big bonus- 1975 model cars are exempt from emission testing in California.

It drove well and everything (except the A/C) worked. It has the desirable power steering (not sure if that was on all S3 models). I did notice that it had a recent paint job that looked pretty good on the surface, but I suspected that the prep work was not very good. This proved to be correct as the paint has now cracked and bubbled in several places. It appears to be very original throughout and doesn't seem to have been "messed" with. I find no signs that it has ever really been worked on or modified(other than paint and front seats) The front seats have obviously been recovered, and not that well done relative to the original quality (pattern is also not correct as seen on the rear seats which have not been redone). The windshield is also delaminating, showing small bubbles between the layers of glass. The rest of the glass is excellent. Some front carpet pieces up front are missing. The major flaw in the car is the frame on the drivers side where the lower control arm attaches. It is of square tubing and has severe rust on the lower horizontal side of the tube, making it unsafe to drive in my opinion. I have the front clip of an S2 (photo available) which is included in the sale, which has excellent frame components, that I believe are the same. It could also be repaired in situ. There are also several spots of improper jack placement with corresponding damage to the floor (on the driver's side only for some reason). The exhaust looks excellent with the exception of a rust repair on one of the mufflers. The throttle linkages including the carb butterfly shaft seals/bearings are very good. It has the original locking gas caps and under hood heat pad material in very good condition. The aluminum hood and the rest of the body is very straight and in excellent condition. I cannot guarantee it, of course, but I can find no sign of body damage/repair.

As I began to work on the engine I found cracks at the base of intake manifolds (which I found out was a relatively common problem) which of course was letting in unmetered air, causing a lean condition. Now the list of "might as wells" began. I removed the manifolds and had them repaired to a very high standard, then powder coated in an aluminum color. I started accumulating parts as seen in pictures including, new plug wire set, 6 Weber DCOE rebuilt kits, gasket set, air filters, hydraulic reservoirs, Earl's stainless line and fittings for carb fuel lines, belts, filters, water thermostat, timing chains, rebuilt the water pump with new bearings and seals, windshield gasket, etc. I cleaned and powder coated many parts including the valve covers (one of which I sanded to reveal lettering- as seen in picture). I purchased new chrome acorn nuts and studs. I even made a copy of the factory tool for adjusting the timing chains. I also powder coated the grill elements and replaced the headlights with E-code H4 and H1 units. The rear tail light clusters are brand new (housings and lenses) as well as the white parking light lenses up front. Reproduction owners manual, original tech manual, and original parts list is included.

Compression tests and leak down as follows, cylinders 1 thru 12 : 210/18%, 225/24%, 220/26%, 210/28%, 210/27%, 210/14%, 240/34%, 215/30%, 220/14%, 215/28%, 220/28%, 210/24%

In my opinion, this car would be a very worthy candidate for a complete restoration. It could however be reassembled and the frame repaired and enjoyed as is. Although expensive, even if you are doing much of the work yourself, I think it could be done not "too" far out of the current money. I also believe that these models will being going up in value substantially. So after saying that, why am I selling? Well, mostly the usual reasons. I have a lack of funds and time to complete all of the projects I currently have. This car deserves a competent restoration, as I would be surprised if even half of the 1200 or so produced still exist.

I can assist, at a cost, with enclosed transport if within a days drive.

I have lots more pictures available and will take pictures of anything specific upon request. Please ask all questions and you will get 100% honest answers. Although I have done my best to accurately describe the vehicles condition I strongly suggest that the vehicle is seen in person so that there are no disappointments.

Overall this car presents well and looks great with European-spec bumpers. There are certainly some question marks and big bills if you want to get it together or completely restore it, but putting it together and driving it surely is possible. Unless you're talented and planning to do the work yourself, it would likely be less of a headache to just buy one complete - but this is a Lamborghini, and Lamborghinis are made of stories - what better story to have than resurrecting a raging bull?

1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio as seen in “The Wolf of Wall Street”

What is the price of celebrity? Always an interesting question when it comes to collector vehicles. By now we’ve either seen or read the reviews of “The Wolf of Wall Street,” a take by famed director Martin Scorsese on the fast times of the world of high finance in the 1980s. If you were watching closely, you might have spotted a classic sports car from the 1980s make an appearance in the opening scenes. While the easy choice might have been a Porsche 911 or Mercedes-Benz SL, the director decided to go for a more Mediterranean choice in this, the Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio. This particular Series 3 Spider is a two owner car with just over 80,000 miles on the clock.

If this were any normal Series 3 Spider, we’d be looking at a $10,000 to $15,000 car here, given the condition. Is star power worth more than double in this case, then? That’s debatable, given this isn’t the first time this car has appeared in an online auction. It certainly would be interesting to see where this would go with no reserve. Given this car appeared in a movie regarding the investment world, maybe it's worth taking a risk over the normal value for a slice of movie history?

This is a one-owner Spider with just under 75,000 miles on the clock. It has spent its whole life in California and looks positively beachy in Light Aqua.

The Series 3 wasn't the most desirable of the Spider lot, but such an original, low mileage example like this will bring strong money. This car has a reserve, and if I had to estimate, it's probably somewhere in the $12,000 to $15,000 territory. There are cheaper Spiders out there that could feasibly be used on a regular basis, but for those seeking the best, this particular car would be a good place to start.

This beautiful Alfa Romeo Graduate has only 49400 miles on it. We believe to have only 3 previous owners. This is an original rust free Alfa Romeo that has had one factory quality repaint over 10 years ago. The black canvass top fits tight with no leaks or gaps in the top. The interior in original and is in excellent condition. The Alfa Graduate came new with plastic hub caps. We just installed 4 Alfa Romeo Veloce Alloy 14" rims to give this great Alfa an even better apperance. The engine runs smoothly, the clutch and gear box all work like they should. The air conditioning still is working. Don't miss this Alfa, it's a great car.

The Series 4 Spider and early Duettos are my favorite Spiders, but this Series 3 certainly catches my eye. Anywhere in the $10,000 to $14,000 range should be about the order of the day for a Spider in this condition with this kind of mileage.

1989 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

I can't think of a car that makes me sit around the office more and daydream about the summer months and vacation more than the Alfa Romeo Spider. Well, those warmer days are not too far off for us in the Northeastern US, but it's never to early to start thinking of a summer plaything. This late model Series 3 Spider Veloce for sale in Florida is just the thing for those carefree summer trips.

You are looking at a beautiful Alfa Spider that is in super condition. This is a totally rust free car. The exterior is like new with really not a mark on it. The wheels all look like brand new. The convertible top is brand new! The interior is leather and is in amazing condition. Look at the pictures. Amazing condition. Has the factory Alfa floor mats. Super clean interior. This car runs brand new! Hits the road like new. It comes with a car cover, extra A/C condenser and a brand new bra. The previous owner of this car spent a huge amount of money restoring this car. His loss is your gain. This will make someone a great car with great investment potential.

Some of the most affordable Spiders are the Series 3 versions from the 1980s. You can find plenty on the market at any given time for well under $10,000, such as this one. I'd suspect given the condition and mileage, this Spider won't last too long, as it is well sorted and painted a desirable hue.

1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

The 105 Series Alfa Romeo Spider is one of the most plentiful Italian classics available in the US and a good starting point for those new to the Italian car game. The Spiders produced in the late 1970s and 1980s can get a bit overlooked, due to the popularity of the original Duetto and the refined, final edition Series 4. This Spider for sale in Louisiana caught my attention, as it has relatively low mileage and looks clean and crisp in this shade of silver blue with Panasport style wheels.

This car is the archetype of the classic sexy Italian roadster! A "Wednesday Alfa," the vehicle has absolutely no rust and has had zero serious mechanical or electrical issues. I am only it's second owner and it as been impeccably maintained, restored, and enhanced to achieve superb daily drivability that is unlike any other Spider. This includes:

-New front and rear suspension
-Chassis stiffening system
-New cool air intake
-New exhaust system from manifolds to tail pipe
-New brakes x 4 and master cylinder
-New 90A alternator
-New water pump
-New valve cover gasket
-New Lights/Turn signal/Wiper switch
-New ignition switch
-New 15" Rota panasport alloy wheels
-New Yokahama tires
-New plugs and certified Alfa wires
-New Alfa top
-New clutch hydraulics

All work done 2010-2011 by Ralli-Round, Alfa specialists in Seattle, WA. The car runs like no other Spider and loves to be driven every day! More photos available on request.

While the Series 4 Spiders are a bit more reliable with their Bosch engine management, the Series 3 Spiders can offer a bit more bang for the buck. A lot of work has been done to this particular car and in light of that, the car is priced well within reason. For someone looking for a plug and play Alfa Spider, this car would be a good candidate.

1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio

Even though the winter months are upon us here on the East Coast of the US, it's always nice to dream about warm weather and top down motoring during these frigid days. One of my favorites of all time is the Alfa Romeo Spider. Typically I prefer the early Duettos and final Series 4 Spiders, but this Quadrifoglio for sale in Illinois has travelled just under 20,000 miles and comes equipped with the not often seen hardtop.

1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio

Quadrifoglio, beautiful roadster in excellent condition. Very low miles, one owner with clean Carfax Vehicle History Report. This 1986 Alpha Romeo Quadrifoglio Spider is absolutely beautiful. Locally owned and serviced. Stored under cover when it wasn't driven. It has never seen snow. Soft top was replaced three years ago and a factory original hard top is included as well. It is very rare to find a Spider in this condition with extensive maintenance records with receipts. Everything on this vehicle is original! This Spider is equipped with Alloy Wheels, Power Windows, Power Mirrors, Manual Transmission, OEM Hard Top, Soft Top, OEM Cassette Stereo, Rear Spoiler and Air Conditioning.

At $15,000, this mid '80s Spider is priced well above the average. While it is well equipped, I suspect this car might change hands for around $13,000. The black trim around the rear clip always made this particular Spider's looks a bit heavy handed, but with the hardtop, alloy wheels shared with the later Series 4 and the all important red paintwork, this contributes to this Series 3 Spider's desirability.

1982 Maserati Quattroporte

While the Biturbo brought a lot of negative press to the Maserati party during the 1980s, there was another model that flew under the radar: the third generation Quattroporte. It's Giugiaro penned lines aped a bit of the Maserati Kyalami and De Tomaso Longchamp, but on a grander scale. Available with a 4.1 or 4.9 liter V8, this luxury sedan offered impressive power in an era of engines strangled by emissions controls. With a plush leather to back up this power, this was a great long distance cruiser. Much like today's fifth generation Quattroporte, this car was the choice for executives wanting something just a bit more special than the usual run of the mill luxury sedan. This Quattroporte for sale in Louisiana looks handsome in brown with aftermarket wheels that aren't oversized and fit the character of the car.

Anywhere around the $10,000 mark seems to be the going rate for a Series 3 Quattroporte in good running and cosmetic order these days. Anything over that mark is reserved for low mileage, museum quality vehicles. The caveat here is that Maseratis from the 1980s, whether they are the oft maligned Biturbo or their bigger sibling that we see here, don’t have the inherent collectability factor that earlier and later vehicles wearing the Trident badge have. True, there are a lot of enthusiasts out there buying, running and restoring Maseratis from this period, but you have to really love these cars or buy them in top condition, as they are a losing battle when it comes to an investment. Still, the Series III Quattroporte does have presence in its own right and you certainly don't see one, especially in this condition, every day of the week.

1986 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce

The Series 3 Alfa Romeo Spider doesn't get as much love as it's earlier or later counterparts, it seems, but it is just as important in the marque's history. This is the car that kept the company going in terms of US sales in the 1980s. With the imminent return of Alfa Romeo to the US market, the manufacturer is acutely aware of the Spider's popularity on this side of the Atlantic, as they plan to bring a new generation Spider to these shores. This low mileage Spider Veloce is a nice way to enjoy al fresco Alfa motoring in the meantime.

40,131 original miles, this car has been garage kept and rarely driven for the last 15 years, and has been run weekly. It is ready for the show circuit or as a daily driver and needs nothing. The body is flawless, the engine is mechanically sound, and the top is like new! You must see in person to appreciate how like-new this car truly is! Power windows were a rare feature for this year, and the leather interior feels like sinking into the home-recliner. Contact me with any questions. While this is a very nice low mile car, it is still 26 years old, so it is AS-is where is.

White cars are in vogue these days; as such, this hue adds a bit of contemporary flair to an otherwise classic design. Spiders of this vintage with lower mileage can bring anywhere between $8,000 to $12,000 these days, with the very best reaching beyond that range. While this car has low mileage, these roadsters need exercise, so any potential buyer should make sure things such as belts, hoses and tires haven't suffered any degradation along with being mindful of the usual mechanical items that may be compromised due to age rather than mileage.
