1984 Ferrari 400i

For most enthusiasts in the market for a Ferrari, the 400i and 412 are probably way down at the bottom of the want list. Even with a V12 and four seat practicality, they never made a splash here in the US, mainly because they weren't sold here new. Many of these coupes were fitted with a GM 3 speed automatic, but this example for sale in Ontario has the desirable 5-speed gearbox and looks very up to date in gray over red leather.

1984 Ferrari 400i

1984 Ferrari 400i with the rare and highly desirable 5 speed manual transmission, in the classic color combination of Grigio Ferro Metallic, with red leather interior in very good condition. There are no rips or tears in the leather, and in general the leather looks very clean and nice. The original red carpets in good condition, black dash, mostly original factory paint, very clean California car, 74,200 miles from new, fully documented history file, very strong engine, starts and runs very well, the manual transmission shifts very well, fresh TRX tires, clean Ontario title, 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, top speed 155MPH, This car is marked as both 400GT and 400i on its factory build late. It is titled under its Ferrari chassis number 50679. Its VIN number is ZFFEB07000050679. The Ebay system does not recognize the actual VIN of a 400GT, so it won't allow me to list it as a 1984. This car was imported to California from France and we have the DOT certification documents. These 400i Ferraris have been undervalued partly because most of them were automatics. The manual transmission completely transforms the car. Running it through the gears is a joy. It pulls strong and hard in every gear. It is a fabulous high speed highway cruiser, it handles very well with crisp turn-in and high cornering ability. 90 percent of the performace of a Daytona for 10 percent of the price. Half of the price of the next cheapest V12 Ferrari. Prices are rising, now is the time to invest. I invite you to please inspect this car before bidding to satisfy yourself as to its condition. It's hard to say whether 400i and 412 models are rising; they have seemed rather flat in recent years. The manual transmission certainly makes this V12 tourer more desirable for serious enthusiasts. With mileage approaching 75,000, prospective buyers should be prepared to spend about $25,000 to $35,000 for such an example with a documented history.

2005 Maserati Quattroporte

It has been a decade since the return of Maserati to the United States; consequently values of earlier models like the Coupe, Spyder and Quattroporte, have dropped into reasonable territory. The Quattroporte is about the closest thing you can currently get to a four door Ferrari, as this executive saloon shares it's Ferrari-based 4.2 liter V8 engine. With an arresting exhaust note and classic Italian coachwork inside, this isn't your everyday luxury vehicle. Here is a Quattroporte for sale in Florida with under 20,000 miles that looks rather sharp in dark metallic blue.

1993 Ferrari 512TR

Even though the basic design lived on until 1996, the Ferrari Testarossa was an icon of the 1980s and remains one of the most recognizable Ferraris to date. In 1991, the original Testarossa underwent a facelift, and was reintroduced as the 512TR. The subtle styling tweaks and updated wheels lent a bit of refinement to this 12 cylinder brute, but kept the trademark side strakes. This bright yellow example for sale in Texas is an almost new example with an impossibly low 4,300 miles on the clock.

There are two things on this car I'm not a fan of. First is the single stripe down the center of the body. This Pininfarina design is one which does not lend itself well to any kind of alteration whatsoever. Second, this was an era where Ferraris had the motorized seatbelts, as airbags would appear shortly after this 512TR was built. At almost $120,000, this is very pricey for any sort of Testarossa, even considering the mileage. Most Testarossas and 512TRs these days are hovering around $60,000 to $90,000.

1991 Alfa Romeo 164

If you missed your chance at buying a brand new Alfa Romeo 164 about twenty years back, here is your second chance. We have featured a few low mileage 164 sedans here at CICFS, but none with mileage this low. This particular car for sale in Philadelphia is the base 164, with cloth interior. This is a seldom seen trim level, as the more common 164 models sold in the US market were the upgraded 164L and 164S.

1991 Alfa Romeo 164

You are looking at a very rare super low mileage Alfa Romeo hat has been well kept and maintained; it's an all around great looking vehicle. The vehicle was barely driven and looks amazing. This is a-never-smoked-in beauty that looks and smells great. The cars exterior is white that has got a deep sparkling shine to it. The exterior is in good condition. The interior is gray cloth that looks new. The console and dash look great as well!

The engine sounds, runs and feels smooth and provides abundant power. The 5 Speed Manual transmission shifts well - smoothly and easily. We make an effort to test for any electrical problems and none were found on this vehicle. The engine compartment looks clean, and void of any leaks. Great running condition vehicle! The A/C works well and blows cold air! We had our mechanic check the car and no problems were found with it. All in all, the car really runs great!

As you can judge for yourself from the pictures - the interior is clean and looks great! The trunk has many functions, one of which is obviously the superior cargo capacity. The back seats come down in case you need to increase the payload capacity.The trunk is very clean and roomy as you can see from the pictures. The previous owner used it sparely and it looks as if it were new. This is a unique one of a kind vehicle, that is painted with a color that really makes it stand out in the crowd of other cars. It's been garage kept, and is in good condition.

Having passed through three owners, it is almost a stroke of luck that any 164 could be preserved to such a high level. The one thing that detracts from this car is the engine bay, as the cam covers are oxidized, no doubt a result of spending time in the northeast. A bit of chrome polish on the intake manifolds and a freshening to the cam covers would put the finishing touch on this car. The asking price of $20,000 is very steep, even considering the fact that this may be one of the lowest mileage 164s in existence. Realistically, this car might command $12,000 to $15,000 at the high end on a good day. Most well-kept examples with fewer than 100,000 miles can range these days from $6,000 to $10,000, give or take.

1990 Ferrari F40

We featured a Ferrari F40 about a month ago, so it was pleasantly surprising that yet another US spec version has recently come up for sale again. The F40 was the Bugatti Veyron of its day, pushing the performance envelope beyond boundaries no one had yet exceeded, forever cementing its place in supercar history and in the minds of enthusiasts for generations. With under 5,000 miles, this F40 for sale Missouri is pretty much as new.

1990 Ferrari F40 in Rosso Corsa over a Red interior with just 4,527 miles! Serial number 86954 was delivered new by Shelton Ferrari on January 2nd, 1991 and has received meticulous care thru the years. Fully documented service history performed only by authorized Ferrari Dealerships. All factory campaigns have been performed and over 30 pages of service receipts are present! Complete ownership history is documented as well as a copy of the original window sticker. This F40 scored a 97.5 at a National Ferrari Concours event, the copies of the judging are included. Car #86954 has been certified with the Ferrari Classiche Program and has its recognition plaque as well as the Ferrari Classiche Presentation Book! This F40 is not only in outstanding physical and mechanical condition but is one of the most documented F40's to be available for sale in recent time. Complete with a copy of the original window sticker, books, tool kit and tire inflator.

This F40 has about 2,000 miles less than the F40 that was for sale last month, and is being offered at around a $50,000 premium. I'm not sure if $25,000 per 1,000 miles is really worth it, but I suspect this F40 may sell in the low $600,000 range, which is about the market price for these performance icons.

1991 Alfa Romeo Spider

Summer is coming, so what better time than to consider a sporting little roadster? Preferably an Italian one. We love the Series 4 Alfa Romeo Spider here at CICFS, and this example for sale in Arizona has had but one careful owner and has covered a scant 52,000 miles in 21 years.

1991 Alfa Romeo Spider

This '91 Alfa Romeo Spider is absolutely beautiful, all original. This is a one owner car, owned by a mature woman since new. The car has never been abused, never driven in winter, garage kept and always maintained. There has never been any paint or body work done on this vehicle. The interior is in perfect condition. I want to stress that everything on this car is original. Everything works including all gauges, switches, original radio, remote rear view mirrors, door locks etc. The air conditioner blows very cold and the heater works as new. All the original books and service receipts and tools, including the “Alfa” tire pressure gauge are included. The engine and transmission work as new. The alloy wheels are in new condition. ALL ORIGINAL, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! COLLECTABLE!

I've noticed prices are creeping up a little for these cars, the last of the classic open top Alfa Romeos. While this is a base Spider, there's not much difference in value between this trim level and the uplevel Veloce. I would wager to say anywhere between $13,000 to $15,000 would be a reasonable estimate for this pristine example.

1982 Lancia Gamma Coupe

The Lancia Gamma is virtually unknown in the United States but this car, in my opinion, has to be one of the most handsome coupes to emerge from the late 1970s and early 1980s. While the coupe and its sedan counterpart competed in the executive segment, the engine would have suggested otherwise, as the Gamma was offered with a 2.0 liter and 2.5 liter horizontally opposed four cylinder. A torquey mill this was, but it failed to offer the power and refinement buyers in this class were used to. The engine also suffered a variety of teething problems from cooling issues to camshaft wear. Even if time has left the Gamma in relative obscurity, the simple rebadging of Chryslers into Lancias as of late has made enthusiasts long for the old Lancia, when uniqueness and adventurous engineering ruled the day. This car for sale near Brescia has covered about 46,000 miles and appears to be rather well kept, but lacks much detail from the seller.

Given that white is such a popular color nowadays, this car wouldn't look too out of place in modern day traffic. The Gamma is a stellar example of the timeless nature of Pininfarina's designs. At about $6,500 USD, it's a lot of style for the money. Shipping to the US would of course increase the bottom line, but if the price could be negotiated down to a level where it would keep this car under the $7,000 mark, it would be a practical classic for enthusiasts looking to take the road less traveled and have an instant conversation starter in the company of other automotive enthusiasts.

1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona

Voted by Motor Trend Classic as one of the top ten Ferraris of all time and Top Sports Car of the 1970s by Sports Car International, the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 is an icon. Along with these accolades, the Daytona gained a prominent role across a vast swath of popular culture, from Brock Yates' Cannonball Run to the cover of The Carpenters' album "Now and Then." A little under 1,300 Daytona hardtops were ever produced, as opposed to only 127 examples of the open top Spider. When a good one comes up for sale, collectors take notice. This example for sale in California comes from a private collection and looks to be well preserved rather than over restored.

1972 Ferrari 365 GTB Daytona. Rare classic, collector quality, excellent car inside & out. Just acquired from a private collection, this 1972 Daytona is an outstanding example and one of the finest we have had in years. This exceptional car, with a well documented history, looks great and, runs and drives like a classic Daytona. The Daytona is sought after by collector's worldwide as experts believe the Daytona will continue to increase in value. To own an example of the Daytona like this one is a rare opportunity. Vehicle options include power windows and air conditioning. Car also has coveted tool set and, a car cover.

One glaring omission with this ad is the mileage. I wouldn't suspect this car has been abused, as it looks to be in good nick. The asking price of just under $370,000 is about in line with current market values for Daytonas. In classic Rosso Corsa, this motor would look equally at home on the American interstate as it would bombing down a coastal route on the French Riviera.

2000 Ferrari F550 Maranello

The Ferrari F550 Maranello is one of my favorite exotics from the past two decades. In an era of bulbous and ill-proportioned aesthetics, the F550 showed that hope wasn't lost when it came to automotive design. The fact that it has a V12 engine and enough room for two and their luggage for a weekend getaway makes the package even sweeter. This low mileage example is a six speed manual and has lived most of its life in sunny Florida.

At $78,500, this F550 is right in the heart of current market values, especially given the low mileage of this example. With a recent service completed, it should allow potential suitors to rest easy for at least another 10,000 miles or so and allow some time to set aside some cash for the next big service. I never grow tired of these F550s. Twenty to thirty years from now, I believe they will reach the same cult status as the legendary Daytona. They will be remembered as the last of a breed from an era when fuel prices were a fraction of what they will inevitably be and when a proper grand touring coupe meant a big engine and a proper manual gearbox.

1981 Lancia Beta Zagato

The Lancia Beta was the first new car that Lancia developed after Fiat took control of the company in 1969. Introduced in 1972, this model would go on to set record sales for Lancia, but also garner a reputation for being a rust prone vehicle. This reputation would taint the company so badly that Lancia would pull out of its largest export market at the time, the United Kingdom, a little over ten years later. One of the last new Lancias to be sold in the US market is the car you see here, the Beta Zagato. Built on the Coupe's chassis with a targa roof, it was an interesting collaboration in that the car was designed by Pininfarina but built by Zagato. In total, a little over 9,000 of these open roofed Betas were built before Lancia ceased US sales.

At $3,500, this is possibly one of the cheapest points of entry into classic Italian car ownership, without having to dump a ghastly amount of money on a full restoration. Few of these Zagatos survive today and the ones that do are often rusted out and on their last legs mechanically. While not the fastest cars out there, these Betas are known for their good handling and if this car has lasted this long without suffering at the hands of the tin worm, it should be able to survive another 30 years with proper maintenance.
