While we just featured an Alfa Romeo Giulia last Sunday, this particular car was just too interesting to pass up as a feature. Carrozzeria Colli was best known for their estate variants of certain Alfa Romeo sedans, most notably the handsome Giulia Giardinetta, a precurser to the lifestyle estates that are popular throughout Europe today. In the mid 1960s, they produced two open roofed examples of the Giulia. Similar to the Fiat 500 and 600 Jolly, this Giulia "Torpedo" as it was called, had no doors and a roof similar to a golf cart. Meant for parades and as transport in resort towns, this was a very unlikely Giulia variant of which few enthusiasts are aware. This car is for sale in Northern Italy, approximately 40 miles from the Swiss border.
The body set up by Torpedo 'Colli'sul stretched floorpan of the 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super was designed for use in representing special occasions for visits to the establishment of the centenarian. Only two examples were produced, one is in possession of a museum. Definitely a unique piece!
At €75,000 (~ $92,000 USD), this Giulia is obviously not for your average collector. Perhaps a resort may snap it up. One could imagine how fun it would be to motor around in this thing on the banks of Lake Como or along the French Riviera. This car is certainly an intriguing piece and given the price of Fiat Jollys these days, I'm sure if the right buyer comes along the asking price will be met, or if not, will come close.
At first glance, the Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan doesn’t do much to suggest just how remarkable this small car is. With a lower drag coefficient than a 911 from the period, a robust twin cam, four cylinder engine and a curb weight under 2,300 pounds, this was a lively car. As a result of this performance, these were popular cars with the Carabinieri in Italy. Today, these sporty sedans tend to be a more affordable way into classic Italian car ownership than their more sporting two door counterparts. This Giulia for sale in Nebraska was imported to the US in 2003 after being owned by the same owner in Rome for 30 years.
ALFA ROMEO 1969 GIULIA SUPER 1600
TIPO 105.26
VIN AR*889715
Color: Beige Cava
Although Alfa Romeo's sports cars may be better known in the US, the Giulia sedan was far more popular in its day, combining the practicality of a family car with the same chassis and drive trains used in Alfa's sports models. With the Giulia, Alfa Romeo deserves the credit for developing the sports sedan well before BMW conceived the 2002. This Giulia Super is one of the desirable 1600 “Biscione” variants, manufactured only from 1968 to 1971. The 1600 Biscione cars (named for the serpent badge in the roof pillar) incorporated mechanical updates from the 1750 series and had more powerful engines and a higher level of interior and exterior trim than other Giulia models.
889715 a preservation car, registered continuously to the original owner in Rome for 30 years before I bought it through a Dutch dealer and brought it to the United States in 2003. It has been conserved, rather than restored. It still has the original Italian windshield sticker and insurance papers from 1969. To my knowledge the engine, transmission and differential are original, and the paint, interior and trim are conserved in very nice condition. All mechanical and electrical systems (except the electric clock) are in good working order and the car is reliable and a pleasure to drive.
In the 9 years I have owned this car I have maintained its originality and integrity while making necessary repairs and tasteful updates/upgrades to improve practicality, safety and performance. I have replaced worn parts with new factory, NOS, or good-quality reproduction items, whenever possible. It appears the previous owners did the same. The result is a beautiful, drivable vintage car that retains the unique combination of style, performance and practicality the Giulia was designed to provide.
Significant modifications and repairs are listed below. A collection of spare parts and Alfa Romeo factory manuals is available to the interested buyer for an additional price to be negotiated at the time of sale.
Repairs/restorations
New clutch and clutch hydraulics
New center and rear mufflers and exhaust pipes
Front suspension rebuilt with Lemfoder parts
Front turn signal lenses replaced with reproduction Carello
Reproduction hubcaps (originals available)
Bottom cushion of driver’s seat re-upholstered with original-style material by previous owner
Partial repaint of lower panels by previous owner
Reproduction carpets from Re-Originals. Note: the carpets I was sent were for the wrong car; correct replacements are being made and will be included with the sale.
Known issues
The electric clock does not work
The steering box drips oil when the car sits for a long time.
Rust is minimal for a 43-year old Alfa. No rust is visible on the outside of the car. I know about the following areas: an old, welded repair in the front passenger-side footwell, which seems to be holding up well; two holes about 1/8” in diameter in the spare tire well; small perforations where the left inner fender meets the slanted panel of the driver’s footwell beside the wash/wipe switch.
The asking price of $25,000 is a bit on the high side for Giulias of this vintage, even considering the condition and ownership history. This is creeping into GTV territory and I’m not sure the market is quite there yet on these four door Alfas. Around the $20,000 mark would probably be more reasonable, considering you can find similar, if not as original, Giulias for about $5,000 less on a regular basis.
The 2000 was the final evolution of the famed GTV coupe. Introduced in 1971, the twin cam four cylinder engine produced 130 horsepower and came equipped with SPICA fuel injection in the US and Canada. This fuel injection system made a name for itself for being rather unreliable. Other markets were fortunate in that carburetors were the fuel delivery system of choice and with them came a higher horsepower figure of 150. This GTV 2000 is one of those carbureted cars, coming from Europe with a rare factory sunroof.
1975 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 Euro. This is the very rare 1975 production year Euro Bertone designed GTV 2000, VIN # AR105300004710, with the Alfa factory Dellorto twin carbs, (NOT the troublesome U.S. Spica F.I.), finished in the rare European Champagne color with black vinyl interior; this color was not available to the U.S. market. The paint is mostly original, and near perfect, and is best described as "bronze," and all glass was taken out during a factory color respray. This rare GTV also has the rare manual sliding factory sunroof, not available to the U.S. Market.
These GTVs were not imported to the US market after 1974. European GTV’s are faster, handle and look better then the U.S. GTV 2000’s. They weigh about 145 lb’s lighter then the U.S. GTV versions. You can feel the difference at speed. This rare original unmolested GTV is owned by a career Military Officer and Classic car collector, who recently brought it back from Europe. It is rust free, with exception of two spots on the roof, which could be easily re-painted.
The interior is very good with original glass all around. The body is near perfect, with NO door dings (see photos) and all the gaps are true and straight, with no past accident damage. This GTV is totally original and unmolested! It has the original wheels, with GTV stainless steel caps, which have just been newly powder-coated. It drives beautifully, tight, no squeaks, and stiff suspension. It has a clear title and a matching numbers with the ORIGINAL engine, 143 K original Kilometers-NOT miles!
Attached pictures are included of the shock towers, front and rear floor pans-both sides, arches, all 4 jack points, and door jambs which show no rust. Gaps are straight and true, both doors open/close and lock easily, and the steering wheel is the original factory Alfa Romeo "Personal" wheel. The GTV has just been serviced (this week-8 July 2012) with new fluids, including oil filter, lubed, and a minor tune-up performed: four new platinum plugs and NEW plug wires were installed. It also has a brand new German Bosch 12 volt battery. Tires are all-matching German-made Uni-Royal Rallye 195/70 R 14’s with about 70% tread left. The rare factory sliding manual roof is easy and fast to use, with ease of operation!
The Radio is the Euro Phillips radio, but I have never used it, preferring the music of the 2 liter carbureted engine. An Alfa radio Plate should replace it. The original dash is perfect. The door handles work easily with no internal cracks (a common GTV curse that are expensive to replace). All lights work, horn, turn signals, brake lights, E. flasher, heater, fan, windshield wipers, dash gauges, and rear window heater all work properly. The engine is very good, no oil leaks, excellent compression, no smoke, very high oil pressure (see pictures of gauges at speed of 70 MPH), excellent clutch (no slippage), superior perfect 5 speed transmission with no slippage, grinding, or noise. or popping out of gear and 1st to 2nd is smooth!
All gauges work properly, and please note this model has the rare under dash factory installed Clock and factory installed Ammeter (see pics). Also note, since it is a "Euro GTV" it does NOT have the ugly side markers. Also please note that all gauges are Euro, and the speedometer is in Kilometers. This GTV is a wonderful original driver’s car. Superb, very Fast and sunny with the manual sliding sunroof, dependable, performance oriented, and "1 of a kind!" You will never find another.
As the seller, VERY regretfully, I am selling this very rare GTV due to my wife’s illness. I will request from buyer a "buy back option," at a later date, should buyer decide to resell this rare GTV in the future (if agreeable). There is probably no other original European GTV 2000 like this one available in the U.S.! I would like to own it again.
After reading the story of this car, I can't help but have a heavy heart. We all go through difficult times in our lives and I hope the seller's wife makes a speedy recovery. This sale also goes to show that certain cars have a lot of meaning, which is evidenced by the fact the owner seeks to buy it back someday if the new owner ever decides to sell it. These days, GTV 2000s average around $22,000 to $27,000. The best examples can reach into the $30,000 range, and you can find tired runners between $10,000 and $15,000. If I had to peg a value on this one, it would probably be right around $25,000, as the sunroof and European trim make this an especially desirable GTV.
Austerity is a term thrown about liberally in this harsh economic climate. One segment of the consumer market that austerity seems to have ill effect, however, is the current new vehicle market. Not too long ago, luxuries such as power windows, air conditioning and power steering would have been reserved for higher end vehicles. Nowadays, you would be hard pressed to find any of these features lacking on the most affordable of vehicles. The Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300TI was the most basic of Giulias, with a single carb, 1.3 liter engine good for 77 horsepower mated to a 4-speed manual. This made it the only Giulia to not have a 5-speed gearbox, other than automatic models. Few of these 1300s were sold outside Italy, even though they were still an enjoyable drive. This 1300TI for sale in Denmark had a heart transplant to a 2.0 liter engine, which ups the fun quotient, even if it takes a bit away from originality.
Six years ago we imported this Giulia 1300 TI from the Netherlands. Its Danish owner has now decided to move on to another classic and we are delighted to offer this fine Giulia once again. It has been upgraded with a 2 liter engine and not least the corresponding 2 liter rear axle with the high ratio gearing and 25% limited slip differential. Color is the correct Blu Ollandese and the upholstry has been redone in tan leather. Body, mechanics and interior in excellent condition and the Giulia is a real joy to drive. Wheels are period and rare design Cromodora alloys. All in all a really competent package that will please any discerning alfista.
For $15,000 USD, this is a tad pricy for a US buyer looking for a clean Giulia and the originality factor is not here with this one. Still, even though this car is modified, it has been done tastefully. If it were $1,000 to $3,000 cheaper, it would certainly be tempting, as the dark blue color is sublime on this Alfa. I've always been a fan of the way the offset headlamps give this car an aggressive look. It has been my dream to own a classic Alfa one day, and a Giulia like this is certainly one of the top three models I'll be considering.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia was the quintessential sports sedan of its time and is revered by Alfisti today, as it packs a lot of character into a small package. This particular Giulia is a 1600 Super, a model which was never sold in the US. Shipped over to the US in 2006, this is believed to be the only example of its kind on these shores. Quite simply, this is one of the most original examples of a Giulia that I have ever seen.
Alfa people always recomend that you should get the best example that you can find. If you are thinking about getting a Giulia Sedan, then this would be it! A genuine 'survivor' car with 58,317 kms that has been lovingly kept by 2 owners. Alfa only made the 1600 S model for the home market and produced just 2212 units. I believe that this is the only example in the US.
Its first owner lived in Florence, Italy. He kept the car out of the elements and preserved it for 36 years. In 2006 I bought it thru a German broker and had it shipped to California. Still had her first set of tires - Michelin 165-14. After a quick clean up, I took her to the Concourso Italiano in Monterey where the car took the "Best Alfa" award out of 125 Alfas present. They had never seen such an untouched survivor. Original documents are in hand.
Since then I have kept her in great shape. New clutch, main seals, muffler, brakes, fuel pump and lines, ball joints and tires (165-14 Vredestein). She has been to many club events and shows usually winning first in class or best of show awards. She drives beautifully and easily makes a 90 mile trip to an event at freeway speeds.
The paint is factory Verde Muschio (moss green) and is 90% original. There has been a repaint on the front right fender and some touch up on the right rocker from her time in Italy. Also a minor dent in the right rear door from that time. There is no sign of chassis damage or rust.
Interior is all stock and original including the optional wool cloth seats and the dealer installed Mitsubishi AM cassette radio and electric antenna. It came with dealer floor matts in red which I saved and now wears NOS tan wintermatts from Italy. All of the rubber seals are original and in great condition. The doors open and close like new. Dealer provided key fob and spare bulb/fuse kit. Plates are repros of the original ones.
Cars like this Giulia have me contemplating selling my current ride for a practical classic such as this. I live in an urban area and drive but a few thousand miles per year, so it would be more practical for me than most individuals. Average examples of these Giulias usually run anywhere from $7,000 to $15,000, but I reckon if the reserve is met, this one will probably wind up somewhere in the $20,000 range. This example is a textbook example of a survivor.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia is one of those sedans that defined a segment in the 1960s. When it was introduced in 1962, it was one of the most aerodynamic vehicles on the market, even if it’s upright, boxy shape suggested otherwise. With a curb weight of around 2,200 lbs. and twin carburetors featured on the Giulia Super, this was a 100 mph plus car in an era where some sports cars weren’t even capable of that figure. This car, then, forever transformed people’s ideas of what a four-door vehicle could be capable of. This Giulia Super for sale in Washington looks very well kept and from underneath looks very solid and free of rust.
1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super. It's the 50th anniversary of Giulia. Here is a chance to own part of this historic celebration. A fine example of this celebrated model. The Giulia Super is always included in the lists of all-time great automobiles. Stock and unmodified except for the desirable upgrades of the 1750 motor with veloce cams, Koni shocks and adjustable upper control arms.
It has rebuilt suspension, rebuilt transmission and fresh motor. New imported Italian factory upholstery and carpeting, new, original headliner (there's a name for the pattern, but I forgot it) new windshield. Original dash board with a rare, original, radio block-out plate. Good examples of these cars do not come on the market very often, and this is a very decent old car.
This is a great driver grade restoration, starting with a mostly straight virtually rust free California car. The car belongs to one of my friends who is also a client. He has asked me to help him sell the car. Below is his description, I am happy to answer any and all questions regarding the car, so feel free to ask. While a car that anyone would enjoy owning the new owner may want to enhance this great starting point further to make it more showable. Most of the work on this car has been carried out over the last couple of years. Car is Ivory with dark gray interior. Shows 78227 miles on the speedometer, which I believe could be correct.
Guilias of this vintage in this kind of condition are hovering in the $12,000 to low $20,000 range. If I had to guess, this car may being a little upwards of $15,000. Overall, this is a very nice example of someone looking for a vintage Alfa but seeks something outside of the Spider norm.
We featured a very original, low mileage 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 last month and it seems where there is one, there are several. Here is yet another original, low mileage example that has cropped up again in, you guessed it, California.
Beautiful 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000 in excellent condition. This Nero Black exterior over Brown interior has been a one owner car since new, This Alfa is 100% accident free! By its overall condition, it was very well cared for. The paint is in very nice condition, the body is in excellent shape, the Interior is in amazing condition. Mechanically this Alfa is great with only 50k original miles on the engine and transmission. This GTV needs nothing but a fun driver. All services are up to date, Everything works like it should. This GTV is in very good condition and a great driver quality vehicle. This Alfa is by no means a concourse vehicle, but shows beautiful. The new owner will receive with the car, clean and clear title, some service records and some new and used parts. Please note: inspections are more than welcome before the end of auction, at any Alfa shop of your choice.
I like this GTV better than the one featured last month because it has a little more patina and encourages potential buyers to use it as intended. However, it is still a very much show quality vehicle. The reserve is probably hovering in the $20,000 to $25,000 range, and I'd say, for the originality and presentation, anything up to the low $30,000 range wouldn't be out of the question. Overall, this is a nice, honest example of one of the best classic Alfa coupes.
We've featured a handful of Alfa Romeo GTV coupes on CICFS as of late, however, none as nice or original as this car, currently for sale in California. This GTV is a one owner, original car with a shade over 34,000 miles on the clock. Yes, you read that right. From the factory applied cosmoline underneath to the spare tire having never touched the road, this is a time warp car if I've ever seen one.
This is a one owner from new 1974 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000, it was delivered new in Oakland California by Ken Block Alfa Romeo, 3074 Broadway, Oakland, California, It has covered just 38,629 miles from new, a truly incredible car, having never seen rain or inclement weather of any sort, the single owner was absolutely fastidious in keeping his Alfa in pristine condition
Documentation
If you like documentation then this is the car for you, he kept every piece of paper from the original sales contract, window sticker, sales brochure, even the card of the selling salesman. There is a plastic sleeve with all of the yearly registration documents including the first "drive away" permit, Xeroxed receipt for purchase and of course the Alfa Romeo owners manual plus the Service book complete with the credit card style owners identification. There are bills for service work and repairs spanning the years plus a note book annotating service work and mileage in the 80's.There are two Concours trophies from 1977 and 1978, one for first place the other second, these are carefully wrapped in tissue paper. In 1985 the chosen marque of the Monterey Historics was Alfa Romeo and members of the Alfa Romeo Club were invited to take part in the parade of cars driven on the famous circuit, each car was given a large race style sticker with a race style number which was displayed on the front hood, after the parade the sticker was removed, carefully reapplied to its backing and preserved in the file of documents, there is also a brochure for the 85 event with a pull out supplement detailing the owners club cars that took part in the parade, this is also included
Underside
As you can see from the pictures the underside is rust free and original, all of the factory applied Cosmoline is still there covering the sub frame, floors, inner arches, all panels are still in their white paint under the Cosmoline, the suspension is black, the Alfa Romeo white lettering on the shock absorbers is clearly visible and the nuts and bolts still hold their zinc plating. The drive train is clean and tidy with no visible leaks, the rear axle complete with limited slip diff is in its original alloy finish, the gearbox and motor look factory fresh. The sump is protected by the steel fence style sump guard which I am told is an option. Please note that the dealer "window sticker" is included.
Interior
A remarkably well preserved, original interior, the dashboard has no cracks, the door panels are superb, the factory carpets are fresh and black and there is no fading to any of the black finishes. The instruments are clear and bright and all of the switches and gauges work faultlessly, the center tunnel covers are without cracks or flaws and the wood paneling is perfect. There is the addition of a radio-cassette in the dashboard along with a switch under the steering column for a european style rear light. The stitching on the seats is excellent, there are no rips or tears son any of the sides or surfaces. The seat belts work as they should. The only items at fault are the gear lever shroud and the handbrake shroud, they are both torn.
Engine Bay
The motor compartment is clean and tidy, it gleams in its Alfa Romeo white surrounding the lovely twin cam 2.0 power plant, the Spica injection is complete and works flawlessly. The underside of the hood displays the correct factory stickers along with the two concours badges. The original Spica fuel Injection system is still present and works perfectly. The windshield washer bag is present along with the original radiator showing the factory paint markings on it's top surface. Inside the hood all of the original spot welds are visible, the stickers are still under the hood as you would expect.
Trunk
Simply superb, it could be two years old, the original floors are without equal, the paint is superb even in the wheel well and the spare wheel wears its original Michelin XWX tire which has never seen the road. The unused jack is there along with the correct factory toolkit
Bodywork
This car gleams from top to bottom, to say "rust-free" would be an understatement, I cannot find one single rust bubble anywhere, I believe this must be one of the finest GTV 2000s available for sale today. The spot welds are clearly visible on all panels, inside the front and rear hood, the rockers and inside the wheel arches, these are impossible to duplicate and are never seen on restored cars. The sides are flat and smooth without door dings or waves, the gaps are all perfect apart from a slight variation behind the passenger door, it looks like there may have been a dent there at some stage. I bought it from the owners son who assured me that the paint was all original apart from the front hood which had been repainted after it was scratched, this may well be but I feel certain that after forty years it must have been painted, but it's such a superb car and the finish so dazzling that its really hard to tell, I can find no sign of overspray or masking, the front and rear screens appear never to have never been out and it has the characteristic darkening of the paint where it has kissed up against the rubber. The passenger front fender has definitely had some paint below the swage line and backward of the side marker, it is a slightly different shade. The brightwork is absolutely straight and perfect, the bumpers are correct stainless steel and are razor straight, all badges are excellent, all lights clear and bright. The rear signal units were replaced for European spec. orange lenses, the originals are included in their proper Alfa Romeo parts bags, the plastic badge on the trunk was changed for an earlier enameled one, again the original is included.
With about three days left in the auction, we are past $30,000, with a buy it now price of $41,999. While most GTVs of this vintage sell anywhere from $20,000 to $35,000 depending on mileage and condition, it doesn't make the price of this impressive coupe seem unreasonable. The only problem is, of course, do you drive it, or do you continue to use it sparingly as the original owner has? These cars are meant to be driven, and given that reality, regrettably, this would not be the car for me. I'd rather have a car I could use without feeling guilty every time I left the garage. Still, there is no denying just how exceptional this car is. Kudos to the original owner for preserving one of Alfa Romeo's best coupes.
The Alfa Romeo GTV 1750 is one of the greatest Italian sports cars of the 1960s and 1970s and this is reflected in recent market values. With a twin cam, 1779cc four cylinder engine, slick 5 speed gearbox and disc brakes at all four wheels wrapped in Bertone styling, what’s not to like? While you usually see these coupes in red, blue or silver, this particular GTV in Giallo Orca strikes a nice period look for one of Alfa Romeo’s most legendary sports cars.
This 1969 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750 in Giallo Ocra (Yellow Ocra) embodies the style and performance of the Italian car maker in the late 1960's. This is a rare opportunity to own and drive a classice piece of Alfa Romeo history. Everything about this classic is in working condition (all instruments, panels, switches, etc.)
After 42 years, this car is still running beautifully. The engine is in pristine condition and still rides wonderfully. The transmission works great and gear shifts are smooth. The transition to 2nd gear is free from the grinding that was common among several Alfa models. With the exception of some minor dents and dings (highlighted in the photos) the body looks great. The rare, and distinctive Giallo Ocra paint is completely original with the exception of the rocker panels which are coated in a black, texturized paint which was meant to protect from rocks and chipping. It is unfortunate that the paint was not applied to match the rest of the car, but it has served its purpose in protecting the rockers.
The car is protected with both a Ziebart undercoating as well as an additional rust-proofer. There is no traces of rust anywhere on the car including the normal trouble spots (ie. door jams, tire wells, jack points, etc.) Please note that in photo of spare tire well, there is an overspill of the Ziebart which is the black tar seen in the photo. The interior is like new and features the "flying buttress" seats made for both comfort and a sport-like feel. Brand new custom floor mats with golden emblems are a great compliment to the interior. As mentioned earlier, everything is in working condition. There is no need to ask if something works, everything functions properly.
Listed below are all of the updates and repairs that have been made recently.
New fuel pump and fuel filters; Fuel tank has been re-coated with Tephlon
1 New Brake Booster
Master cylinder has been rebuilt
New Straight Tailpipe
New Pads and Rotors
New U-joint, Center Supports and bearing
2 New Motor Mounts
New Trans Mount
All new Tie Rods
New Clutch Master and Clutch Slave, Flex Hose and Clutch Disc
New Custom Gold Emblem Floor Mats
2 New Rear quarter panel badges
New Caster Bushing
New Inner and Outer Shift Boot
New Battery
New Tires
With a starting bid of $18,000, we’re in the ball park in terms of value. With a no reserve, I would guess this example would fetch just shy of $25,000, given the cosmetic blemishes and non-original Ziebart rust proofing. These were not inexpensive cars in their day, as they cost significantly more than the Ford Lotus Cortina and BMW 2002 while costing just a tad less than the contemporary Jaguar E-Type. Parts are still relatively easy to find and servicing should not be as challenging as some Italian exotics, as long as you can source a mechanic with diversified experience in European motors. With Alfa Romeo’s imminent return to the US market, I would wager to say it’s a good time to buy one of these classic sports coupes, as they would be a more sound investment than common stock given current economic conditions.
Before the days of the BMW 3 series or the Cadillac CTS-V, spirited driving and sedans were very much mutually exclusive terms, except for a few offerings such as the BMW 2002, which was only offered as a two door at the time, and the Datsun 510. Almost a decade prior, however, Alfa Romeo broke the mold with the Giulia. Introduced in 1962, this revolutionary sedan had a low drag coefficient of 0.34 and with 78 horsepower on tap from the 1300 engine, a top speed of around 100 miles per hour could be achieved. These cars soon garnered favor with the Italian police force and enthusiasts alike, even earning the role of the chase car in the original version of The Italian Job. Here is an original example of the later 1600 model with just less than 30,000 miles on the clock.
You are viewing a very rare 1971 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1600. Model number 10526. Very rare "Biscione" edition. VIN # AR188741901. Color: AR343 - Blu Olandese with Tan Interior. Ultimate Alfa daily driver! I purchased this very rare Giulia from an Alfa enthusiast that was living overseas. He imported the Alfa from Belgium in 2005, and since then, the Alfa has seen very little use. It is fitted with the original 1600 cc engine with dual solex carbs. The odometer shows 48,885 Kilometers. The "Biscione" Edition makes this Super quite a rare find here in the States. "Biscione" means "Snake" in Italian. The trim differences from a standard Giulia Super are as follows:
1. Sunken Alfa Romeo badge on the trunk
2. Chrome center strip on the hood.
3. Snake badges on C Pillars
4. Chrome "Berlina" Spears on the rocker panels
5. First part of headliner is black near the visors
6. Chrome surroundings on the interior light switch.
Mechanically, the Alfa runs very nicely. As shown, it has a very tidy engine compartment, and is completely stock under the hood. The 1600 engine starts easily with the pull of the choke. There are no charging issues, and the battery has never gone flat since I have owned it. I drove if for it bit this past summer, and it pulls nicely on the highway with plenty of power to keep up with the flow of traffic. Transmission had been rebuilt prior to being imported. It works fine with no syncro issues. The clutch feels fine as do the brakes. Emergency brake works in good operating condition as well. As shown in the pictures the car has "hanging" pedals. Driveshaft/Ujoints are all in good working order - donuts & Ujoints recently replaced. Electrics work fine except for heater fan. Exhaust system is in good condition with a rear straight pipe (stinger) for a nicer sound. All tires are in good shape. Known issues: At some point, the ignition switch was bypassed due to a broken key, so now it just requires the pull of a switch and the touch of a button to start the Alfa. Transmission leaks some oil. Steering has a bit of freeplay. Stone chip on windshield.
The interior is in very nice original condition as shown in the pictures. The dash is in nice condition including the wood trim. All of the gauges are in nice shape (Euro Gauges including Speedo in Kilometers). Door panels in very nice condition. The rear seat is in near perfect condition. Passenger seat is very nice as well. As shown, the driver's seat has a sheepskin seat cover to cover a rip in the lower portion of the seat. The headliner is in excellent condition. All windows work properly as well as door handles. The Alfa is fitted with European headlights as well as the red rear fog light.
The body has an older repaint in it's original AR343 Blu Olandese. It has held up pretty good, and has the normal "Patina" one would expect from a "driver". As shown in the picture, the passenger side front shows some evidence of repair. There are some misc. spots where paint has flaked off - including under the front bumper. Both bumpers are in excellent condition with no dents or damage. The body is very solid including the rocker panels and floors. There are also some other misc. spots that have been touched up or repaired over the years. There are some misc rust spots - most notably on both rear wheel arches and the passenger side rear quarter panel. There is no rust on the trunk lid or around any of the glass.
In summary, this is essentially an all original 41 year old un-restored Alfa. Far from perfect, but would make the perfect daily driver for the Alfa enthusiast. Something you can drive and enjoy without worrying about getting a door ding or a stone chip. The Alfa is ultra reliable and always starts. I would not hesitate to drive the Alfa anywhere. I put a bunch of Kilometers on it this summer and it never missed a beat! These Sedans are a blast to drive, and will always draw compliments wherever you go! I have done my best to describe the Giulia to the best of my knowledge. There may have been something I may have missed. If you have any questions, please contact me. License plates are not included - they are from my other Alfa.
I'm amazed how little miles this Giulia has under its belt, as they are a blast to drive. Cars like these put a driver back in touch with the purity of driving, unhampered by elements such as electronic aides and over-assisted steering. The German publication Auto Motor und Sport wrote about the Giulia at the time: “superiority that you can only use in moderation, if you do not want to frighten the other road users.” Around $10,000 should be a good estimate of where bids will probably go with such an unmolested example, but given the right amount of enthusiast interest, bidding could possibly surpass that figure.
