This is not the way to buy a 360 Spider, let alone any Ferrari. The way to find the right 360 is to shop for the car with the best history - title status, service records, miles - and then to decide if the color, wheels, and transmission suit your taste. Dredging the bottom of the market is generally not advisable.
But there is something about a 100k mile Ferrari that has us intrigued. Looking over the interior and exterior photos of this car, we can't pick up on any substantial flaws. And, were we to guess the mileage based on condition, we'd say 30k max.
-New Car Trade and a Clean carfax! -Probably one of the most fun cars you could ever drive!! -This car is almost pristine with no major blemishes to note, even has a clear bra to protect the front -Garage kept its entire life -Paint is in excellent shape and the car drives better than 360's we've had with 1/4 the miles -Belt service done and clutch within the last 500 miles -Great set of matching performance tires on staggered 3 piece wheels! -Challenge grille, all stock mechanically, amazing color combo!!! -When I took it for a test drive it performed exactly as it should, I noted nothing for the shop to address based on a 10 mile drive!
At this mileage, we'd expect to see creased leather seats, warped leather on the dashboard, scuffs and scrapes, and other signs of heavy use. We don't detect any of that here. A fastidious owner who enjoyed driving and maintaining his car is likely to thank for this. The belt service and the clutch were even performed within the last 500 miles. These are substantial selling points and the majority of the expensive service one would expect to pay for on a 360. To have them complete out of the box is a great benefit to future owners.
We'd prefer the traditional manual transmission to the automated unit in this car, and we'd be quick to install the modular wheel options. The Challenge rear grill is always a welcome modification in our books, though. Silver over tan is a very appealing combination to us, and we like the optional Daytona seats on this example. We hope that the next owner of this car cares for it as completely as the previous owner did. Who know, someday it might even show 200k miles on the clock.
It's a gated shifter manual Ferrari weekend here at CICFS, thanks to the weather. We were about to write up a miserable Alfetta sedan project when a look outside at the bleak fall winter landscape led us to some more optimistic searches. Ferrari 360 Spider it is.
As far as 360 Spiders go, this example is the cream of the crop. We'll forgive the fender shields (too loud) for compensations such as the common Challenge Stradale rear grille, modular wheel option, and the Verde Zeltwig (green) paint with a tan top to boot. Someone with our sense of style must have ordered this machine.

Ferrari 360 Verde Zeltwig with 10132 Miles, for sale!
As with all 360s, maintenance is not the nightmare that once characterized longitudinal Ferrari V8 service. Through an access panel in the engine firewall, technicians can access the engine timing belts and serpentine belt, allowing for a reasonable 'major' service with the simple removal of the front seat(s). In light of the upsides - a Ferrari V8 powertrain mounted midship - we're inclined to accept the compromise.
With the disclaimer that we interest ourselves more with the mechanical and historical side of Italian cars, and less with following market prices, we will say that this example is priced a bit more fairly than we would expect. Expensive for 360, though it is, the rare color, 6-speed manual, and low mileage certainly command a premium, and in this case, it seems to be a fair one.
You almost have to pity Ferrari when it comes to development and manufacturing costs. A niche automaker such as Ferrari cannot spread the development and tooling costs for each new model over a large production run like GM can with the Corvette, for example. When GM decided to move the Corvette to a completely new mid-engine chassis, it did so with the prospect of 25-30,000 sales annually, a luxury not available to Ferrari.
Ferrari manages development costs by sharing powertrains and vehicle platforms. The 612 lead the way in aluminum front-ship V12 chassis development for the 599 GTB Fiorano (sadly, it didn't pass on its styling grace). And, the 575 Superamerica, a limited-production model, shared its similar tipo F 133 V12 with the Scaglietti, spreading out the development costs over the two models.

This example shows a healthy crop of miles on the odometer. Often, this means that the vehicle is in better health, having required frequent tending to in order to hit the road so often. Given the mileage, the interior is holding up better than expected. Leather for seats in this category of vehicle isn't selected for lasting quality. No, it just needs to look, feel, and smell decadent when the car is purchased new. Though the car wears the 19" HGTC handling package wheels, it doesn't appear to have the chrome exhaust grilles, so it's likely just a wheel upgrade and doesn't contain the other components of the handling package.
Manual shift 612 Scagliettis have never really dropped in price, and looking back at one we posted in 2015, prices have increased by 30%, give or take. Not an explosion by any means, but disheartening for manual 2+2 fans of modest means. As the story goes, the 612 was succeeded by the FF hatchback, available in automated-manual only. An impressive vehicle, the FF, but it's no manual V12 GT. For those looking for a modern Ferrari grand tourer with a manual transmission, the 612 is really the only option.
Our childhood Ferrari experience, like for most, was of the Matchbox car variety. As far as we can remember, it was a yellow Ferrari 250 GTO that introduced us to the brand. And later, there was the yellow Testors Ferrari F50 model car kit to complement our black Lamborghini Diablo. As such, we're more drawn to Ferraris in the bright Giallo Modena than in the traditional Rosso Corsa.
Today's yellow example of a Ferrari 612 is standard 612 fare. Its Tipo F 133 F 5.7L V12 engine represents the pinnacle of that engine range, on street cars at least. Debuting in 1992 in the 612's predecessor, the Ferrari 456, the series of 65 degree V12s peaked with the 612 and its 530hp at a lofty 7,250 RPM - screaming for a GT, and yet so appropriate for a Ferrari.

The advantage to buying a car with a tried-and-true engine platform comes in the service department. Despite the 612's modern appearance, it retains a simpler engine design than the later Enzo-based Tipo F 140 engine series. Unfortunately, the transaxles on the 612 aren't the best at managing clutch slip, as evidenced by the 20k mile clutch replacement on this car. Another negative of this car is the front bumper alignment - we can't tell if it's just contracted for some reason, or whether it's a result of accident repair.
Our ideal yellow 612 would encompass a light tan interior, if only to avoid the bumblebee color scheme. The dark grey wheels would also see replacement with lighter silver units, though we do really like the Ferrari Challenge style of wheel on the big Ferraris. We could also do without the yellow interior trim, but that is easily rectified. At around $100k and only 20k miles, we won't say that this car represents a great value. But, are there really any great values with V12 Ferraris?
How about another poster boy for 1980s sports sedan creativity? By now, the Lancia Thema 8.32 hardly requires introduction. The result of the Type Four collaboration among Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Fiat, and Saab, the Thema was Lancia's premium mid-size sedan from the late 1980s into the 1990s. With an engine design from Marenello and assembly help from Ducati in Bologna, the Thema 8.32 received a modified variant of the Dino V8, called the Tipo 105L in cross-plane form.
Thema 8.32s are lustworthy on principal; how many sleepy European sedans got Ferrari lumps, ever? So we don't mean to throw a wet blanket on the idea in pointing out that Alfa Romeo totally won the Type Four platform contest. Ever care to look up the power numbers for an Alfa Romeo 164 Q4? If you've already bought your Thema 8.32, skip to the end of this post. Alright, ready? The 164 Q4 made a cool 232hp vs 212hp in the Thema 8.32. Better yet, it routed that power through an AWD driveline, thereby quelling the inherent torque-steer of a high-power FWD drivetrain.
Ferrari V8 Powered Executive Sedan ... fresh engine-out service, fully sorted, professionally restored and mechanically A1. Truly cherry.
Rare and remarkable Ferrari V8 powered executive saloon. The car being offered for sale was recently discovered by our team in Italy and has undergone a full mechanical restoration and a thorough cosmetic refresh, inside and out in the last six months. We have just imported the car and all paperwork is in order.
We started with a very original, low mileage example in very good overall condition. Front subframe and engine were removed for a complete engine out service and rebuild. The Ferrari V8 received a full valve job, new rings, new flywheel, new clutch and fully refreshed ignition and fuel injection systems. The engine, cover and manifolds were refinished in the original colors and finishes. Driveshafts and drive system serviced and refreshed. Engine compartment cleaned and detailed prior to engine reinstallation. New full exhaust system installed.
Exterior panels were refinished in original factory shade of metallic red. Double clear coat laid over the metallic burgundy finish and hand sanded to a high luster. Bumper covers repainted. The undercarriage is rust and damage free, undercoating has been refreshed as required. Wheels have been cleaned, inspected and refreshed, fitted with period correct tires all around with 75% tread depth remaining. Comes with a second set of new, period correct tires.
The original plush Alcantara interior has been meticulously cleaned and detailed, including a refresh and refit of the unique headliner. Seats, dash and carpeting are now in superb, original condition. Trunk linings have been removed, cleaned and reinstalled. Various interior trim pieces renewed, all interior lights, switches and electronics checked and redone as necessary. Retractable rear spoiler is fully functional and fitted with new, unique seals.
The engine starts readily, runs very strong, idles nicely, and shows Ferrari power and grace under acceleration. The car sounds fantastic with the expected Ferrari V8 edge to the well muffled tone. Gearbox shifts cleanly and smoothly, new clutch engages progressively and the entire drivetrain shows the level of sophistication expected of an executive car. Handling is crisp and accurate with a reassuring stability. Torque steer is well controlled by the advanced front end geometry and suspension design.
All details have been professionally attended to and this car is fully sorted and ready to enjoy. Rare, intelligent, sophisticated and refined the Lancia Thema 8.32 is a very special motorcar.

Elephant in the room: this seller wants almost $40k for a nearly 100,000 mile Thema 8.32. $40k is collector money for a car that has most definitely exceeded a collector level of mileage. Is the condition collector-worthy? Well, the engine has seen some major rework, including a claimed rebuild and some head work. The exterior was refinished in the original color, while the interior remains original. Sounds like the basis for an excellent car, yes, but we don't see the original condition often sought by collectors. More than anything, the seller is banking on the rarity of the car leading to a rather optimistic price.
We would need quite a large collection before we'd shell out nearly $40k for a Thema 8.32. And that collection would definitely include an Alfa Romeo 164 Q4. Moreover, we'd go for a common Alfa Romeo 164 Q, without the AWD, before we'd pick up the Thema 8.32. Better styling, quicker acceleration, higher top speed, and better handling rule the 164 Q superior. But, there is no denying the appeal of a Lancia with a Ferrari engine, and we love the Thema 8.32 for that reason. Hopefully we can share a more realistically-priced Thema 8.32 for you all in the near future.
Following up yesterday's top-of-the-heap Mondial T, let's take a look at a flawless, original Mondial QV, sitting in the middle of the pack. To start off, we need to address the fact that Ferrari sold four distinct Mondial models throughout the nameplate's lifetime. With each model came a new iteration of the Dino V8.
The Mondial 8 debuted in 1980 with its 16-valve, 214hp fuel-injected V8. The QV added its namesake of quattrovalvole or 4-valve (per cylinder) heads, and a modest step down in compression in 1982. The Mondial 3.2, our personal favorite due to have the highest power of the transversely mounted cars, bumps up the bore, stroke, and compression ratio to get to a 270hp 3.2L iteration for 1985. These are the last of the cars in which a belt service can be performed with the engine in situ. In 1989, the Mondial T ushered in the new longitudinal powertrain layout that Ferrari would maintain for all future mid-engined sports cars. Mondial Ts were equipped with the bored and stroked 3.4L Dino V8, whose bump in compression and displacement netted 300hp.

his is an original Gray exterior car with red leather interior. The car was painted about a year ago in the same original gray color. To get the car ready for the new paint t all the glass, bumpers, lights and moldings were removed. The primary reason for painting the car was due to clear coat peeling off. All the body panels and trim pieces were kept the same original color. The interior leather, carpet, dash and headliner are all original and in very good original condition. The driver seat foam was strengthen due to age and the original leather cover was reinstalled. The condition of the interior shows the car was well taken care of and was parked indoor all its life.
Complete engine out service on 10/26/2015 at 37,097 miles including replacement of timing belt, tensioner, seals, drive belts, new coolant, engine oil, transmission oil, spark plugs, water pump, etc. The total cost of the service was $12,520.
The emission system is completely new including air pump, valves injector lines, and catalytic converters. The Car easily passes the strict California emission without any issues which speaks to the condition of the engine.
New clutch, pressure plate, releasing bearing, and starter was installed on 10/1/2016 at 37,624 miles at the cost of $2,942. The clutch is upgraded kevlar material and the pressure plate is upgraded plate from 328 model.
Every power accessory works as they should including power windows, door locks, mirrors, antenna and the power sunroof which is very rare on these cars to operate properly. Air Conditioning blows cold air and keeps the cabin at a comfortable temperature in southern California summer heat. It has a Pioneer CD player with an auxiliary input to connect to your phone, there is an amplifier under the passenger's seat.
The car has aftermarket 7"x16" and 8"x16" wheels that look identical to the original OEM rims but without the issue of being stuck with the Michelin TRX metric tires. The wheels were bought from Superformance in UK and they are also made in UK. The tires are like brand new and have almost full tread. The car comes with the complete, unused OEM tools, jack, spare bulb, emergency light, books, first aid kit, and custom made car cover. The spare tire is brand new and has never been installed on the car. You can find cheaper Mondials but if you are looking for a Mondial that it is in excellent condition with complete and up to date service history, you will not find another one. By the time you spend the money that I have spent on the paint and services for another Mondial, it will cost you more than my asking price. This is a perfect car for someone that enjoys driving their Ferrari on a regular basis and wants a car that is all original and in perfect condition. Please note the car will be sold with the original steering wheel that is in very good condition, the MOMO steering wheel on the car is not for sale, I will install the original steering wheel prior to delivery of the car to the new owner.
I drive the car on a regular basis both in heavy traffic and freeways without any issues. The current mileage on the car is 39,700 miles, I drive the car on a regular basis and the mileage may increase during the listing period. I have a clean California title in hand with current registration for the car until September of 2019.
I have all the invoices for the work that was done to the car by a local Ferrari shop.
You may contact me at (310) 892-2177. The car is located in Newport Beach, California. I will assist with shipment.
We are hard-pressed to issue a single complaint about this Mondial QV. Perhaps we'd prefer the 3.2 and the bump in power, but that's hardly fair to what seems to be a fully-functional and original example. In addition to the clean engine work, including the full water pump and belt service, the car has a fresh clutch and pressure plate. Cosmetic work, such a glass-out repaint to address peeling clear coat, and new seat foam under the original, surviving seat covers has been carried out neatly, and with skill.
We think it's easiest to pull off a Mondial when you own that it's a Mondial and wear the Ferrari badge modestly. That's why we like this Mondial - it's been optioned with a less-common color combination that restricts the Ferrari red to those sitting inside the car, and thankfully lacks the Ferrari shields on the front fenders. Amazing how fresh a Mondial can present after so many years of proper care. The current owner claims that mileage could increase before sale due to the fact that he drives the car often - good on him. We hope the new seller keeps in line with this and drives this car as often as possible.
Introduced in 2017, the Ferrari GTC4Lusso T eschews the typical Grand Tourer V12 of the standard GTC4Lusso in favor of a twin turbo V8, while also abandoning the AWD system of the standard car. Though the rear wheel steering system is spared, the GTC4Lusso manages to save a reported 121 pounds, all of it from the front end, over its V12 sibling.
The V8, in this case, comes from the Tipo 154 line of Ferrari V8s - in this case, the Tipo 154 BD. This variant represents the top of the 82mm stroke offerings, besting both the Portofino and California T with a stout 602hp. It doesn't hold onto boost as long as the 83mm variants - the 488GTB and 488 Pista - but does match the former in peak torque.
Tour De France Blue, Beige Leather, Turbo Charged 602hp, F1 Trans, Sports Exhaust, Ventilated and Heated Seats, Passenger Display, Navigation, Shields, Front and Rear Cameras, JBL Audio System
The only thing that we'd change on this particular example is the inclusion of the fender shields. The optioned sports exhaust is a welcome addition to an engine that is up against the sound attenuation of turbochargers, and the ventilated seats should prove useful on the Los Angeles to Las Vegas trips that more than a few of these shooting brakes are bound to experience. Plenty of room for blotters, mescaline, ether, and your partner the attorney, though we aren't endorsing that sort of trip.
As for the V8 vs. V12 question, we side with the V12. The weight savings for the V8 don't outweigh the diminished aural experience on a grand tourer such as this. And, as far as AWD systems go, we're rather enamored with the system on the GTC4Lusso. It's an unorthodox, yet elegant solution, and could prove to be very entertaining with some high performance snow tires. At the same time, we aren't having much trouble picturing a pair of surfboards on a GTC4Lusso T; we concede that for the ultimate surf wagon, you'll want the rear-drive V8.
Today's Ferrari GTC4Lusso looks awfully similar to yesterday's Ferrari FF. And yet, we think that Centro Stile Ferrari have improved substantially on the FF, which was a joint effort between Centro Stile Ferrari and Pininfarina. The dual taillamp rear of the GTC4Lusso breaks up the mass better than the single rounds on the FF, in our opinion. We're not sure why the modest styling changes required such a drastic name change though. FF was certainly a lot easier to type!
On the mechanical side, the GTC4Lusso sees modest improvements over the FF. Ferrari has fitted a four-wheel steering system in addition to improving the AWD system. Though this model is an AWD V12 variant, the GTC4Lusso was offered in "T" trim, where the AWD was omitted and the V12 swapped out for a 3.9L turbocharged V8. Look out for one in tomorrow's posting. Speaking of the V12 engine in this example, it too sees an upgrade over the FF, producing 680hp in Tipo 140 ED trim in the GTC4Lusso vs. the 650hp of the Tipo 140 EB found in the FF.

Vehicle must be covered under original Factory Warranty, Extended Factory Warranty, or Power Warranty.
We like the color combo on this example, and it apes the FF from yesterday down to the yellow brake calipers. We feel obligated to recommend a Ferrari V12 over a turbocharged V8, but we're torn on this one. More to follow in tomorrow's GTC4Lusso T posting. For now, we'll just say that more appropriate applications of Ferrari's TTV8 exist.
This particular car is a Certified Pre-Owned example, which we wouldn't think of as a Ferrari program, but the program exists nonetheless. It would take a lot of warranty work to add up to the $100k premium of this car over yesterday's FF though. With modest drivetrain and chassis improvements, the largest difference between the two models is the exterior styling and freshness of the GTC4Lusso. We don't know if it's worth the cash over a similar FF to us, but for some, the upgrades will be worth it.
Prior to 2011, if you asked most enthusiasts if Ferrari should build a shooting brake grand tourer, they would have welcomed the idea, ludicrous, though it was. And then, out of nowhere, Ferrari presented the FF shooting brake as the successor to the 612 Scaglietti. And threw in a brand new AWD system to boot. Our suspicion? All of the Enzo owners were tired of wheeling their Range Rovers to the slopes and needed a ski rig from Maranello.
The powertrain solution to the new largest Ferrari is quite interesting. First, the old F133 V12 from the 612 Scaglietti is replaced by the F 140 EB V12, a variant of the Enzo's 65 degree V12. Displacement and peak torque are up over the Enzo, which the FF matches on power. As for the AWD system, Ferrari left the front engine, rear transaxle layout intact. To that, they added a small power take-off to the front of the engine, providing two speeds of power to the front axles. The design consolidated the development to a single mechanism and allowed Ferrari to adapt much of their existing hardware, all while saving weight over a more typical AWD system.

This 2012 Ferrari FF is finished in the very rare color combination of Grigio Silverstone over Cuoio full Leather interior. It has been expertly Maintained by Authorized Ferrari Dealers and is in absolute impeccable condition. Complimentary Ferrari Genuine Maintenance Service to May 2019!!
We dig this color combo, and appreciate the lack of Daytona seats. Look, the Daytona seats add a welcomed texture to the otherwise unadorned interior, but for the long drives we'd expect to take in an FF, the standard seats would be our choice. And speaking of long drives, we're inclined to believe that transporting 4 individuals, driver included, in this machine is a real possibility. 651hp. 4 real seats. A useable rear hatch. Yes, please.
We wish that Ferrari had offered a traditional manual with its gated shifter, but as far as automated manuals go, the 7-speed dual clutch unit offered is acceptable. The customer base for these certainly prefers the automating shifting, now that the jerky shifts of early F1 boxes are a thing of the past. We also wish that the styling team had done more to reduce the visual heft of the FF, as they did on the successor, the Ferrari GTC4Lusso. All in all though, the FF is still our top pick for an all-weather grand tourer.
The 612 Scaglietti may not succeed the 456 with grace, owing mostly to its size, but as far as large coupes go, few can compete with the design of the 612. And those that do? Well, they don't come with Ferrari power.
Motivating the aluminum chassis and bodywork of the 612 is a familiar 5.7L V12 based on the engine found in the Ferrari 575M and also found in the Superamerica variant of the 575M. In this trim, the engine produced 533hp, which was the most that any street car saw out of the 65 degree F133 series of Ferrari V12s.

Very few 612s made it out of Maranello with a traditional manual, so this car is forgiven for its F1 paddles. We typically don't seek out black Italian cars, despite owning two, and we think that a blue would suit this car a bit better. But, it does have the polished split-spoke wheels that we love, and we do like how they work with the black exterior.
So, where does the $100k 612 fit into the picture, when manual 456s are readily available in that region and below? Well, if you actually plan on driving it on long trips, the updated suspension and increased interior space could be worth something. We wouldn't bet on it being more reliable, as Ferrari took a reliable design and complicated it. And, the electronic displays haven't aged all that well either. We'll keep a look out for 612s in going forward, and hopefully we'll find a nice traditional manual with the gated shifter to share.
