Handmade 1980 Lamborghini Countach

For some, the Lamborghini Countach is the stuff automotive dreams are made of. Few of us will ever get the pleasure of calling one our own. But that didn't stop one intrepid enthusiast. For 17 years, Ken Imhoff built a Countach from scratch in his basement. A true labor of love, the car was finished just a few years ago and has been featured in a countless number of media outlets. Now Mr. Imhoff is seeking to offload his creation to someone who can truly appreciate it.

Up for auction is a very unique opportunity to own a piece of car culture. An urban legend of the internet dating back to 2009 when I removed a 17 year endeavor from my basement. My name is Ken Imhoff and I am the builder and owner of this one off hand built Lamborghini Countach which is going to be sold to the highest bidder. The car has been featured on too many websites/magazines and TV I lost count. Just a few were NPR, Regis & Kelly, Paul Harvey, NCIS, Jalopnik (3rd biggest story of 2009) Ripley’s Believe or Not (2011) E-bay’s Motor Master for 2009, just to name a few. The car is a copy of a 1980 Lamborghini Countach (Euro-spec) and consists of the following:

·All aluminum body. 2400 lbs.
·Fiberglass wing, wheel arches, and chin spoiler per original.
·Lamborghini windshield with speed glass side windows.
·All steel tube space frame similar to the original.
·377 Ford Cleveland, 12/1 comp., H-beam rods, big roller cam, gear drive, Crower rockers, S.S. Manley valves with ported 4V heads,48 IDA Webers built by Mickey at Inglese, MSD, 180 deg S.S. headers, the best of the best. Nothing over looked in building over 500 HP.
·Pantera ZF 5-speed, Hyd clutch, alum flywheel, bell housing, and shifter.
·Twin aluminum Howie sprint car radiators. Never runs hot with twin 2400 cfm pusher fans. Oil cooler with twin remote race filters.
·Highly modified Corvette C4 control arms, spindles, carriers and half shafts.
·Wilwood 4 piston Super Lites all around on 12” vented rotors and aluminum hats.
·Wilwood complete pedal setup with Wilwood MC and remote reservoirs
·15 gal. fuel cell, electric fuel pump, and sending unit.
·All functioning Auto Meter gauges including an electric 200MPH.
·A competition style interior, MOMO seats, 5 point harness, splined steering wheel, 5lb. Halon fire bottle, all anodized aluminum interior panels with heat and sound barrier rear bulkhead with removable access panel between seats.
·BBS rims with custom center sections. 16 x 12 and 16 X 10 currently with Hoosier racing slicks.

Please bid responsibly and take careful consideration on what you are bidding on so ask a lot of questions. There needs to be a lot of discussion between me and its next owner. It means a lot to me that it goes to the right home. -Ken

If ever there was a car that would be hard to place a value on, this would be it. Countaches of this vintage can fetch anywhere from $80,000 to $120,00 in good shape, while cheap kit cars can be had south of $20,000. But this is no kit car. This is a labor of love and well thought out in an engineering sense. This car also has the advantage of an engine that is cheaper to maintain in the long haul. Given that the price is edging towards the range of a real Countach is a testament to the recognition this car has received in the press as well as the quality of the builder's work.

The Lamborghini Countach was on its last gasp by the time the nineties rolled around. What began as a prototype unveiled at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show lasted all the way to 1990, when the Diablo took over to lead Lamborghini into the 21st century. This 1990 Countach for sale in California looks just as outrageous now as when it debuted on the heels of the equally out of this world Miura.

The market for Countaches has always been strong. The Buy It Now price of almost $150,000 is strong money for any Countach, as you can typically find low mileage examples of 1980s vintages in the $90,000 and $120,000. As a final year example, this certainly holds a bit more desirability for some and in simple black over white leather, the look is timeless.

The Lamborghini Countach is a supercar icon. It stood the automotive world on its ear with it's styling when it was introduced in the early 1970s. It led a long life, carrying Lamborghini through to the 1990s when the Diablo was unveiled. This 5000S is a rare piece in that it is a fuel injected model, one of the few produced before the QV version, or Quattrovalvole, appeared on the scene. In sublime Merlot Red sans spoilers, this Countach has a sense of purity about it, even if the angular styling is rather dramatic.

VIN# ZA9C00500FLA12766. Who is Jasjit Rarewala? A man that was determined to make it happen. Once in a lifetime chance to own this extremely rare "Factory" Fuel injected "One Owner" Countach. Just over 37 produced/imported with the factory injection system (extremely rare) that was refined by Jasjit Rarewala of Lamborghini North America (Lamborghini logo in air plenum). Jasjit's project was started to help convince the DOT and the EPA that the Countach was wholesome enough for U.S. consumption. Just over 3 dozen cars were build for import before the factor completed its successor the "5000QV."

Fitted with very rare factory polished wheels and finished in a beautiful Merlot rosso over duel blk/red interior with just 36,954 one owner kilometers(22,962miles). Round body car, clean lines & no rear spoiler. Clean Carfax, never in an accident or damaged. Always garaged & serviced with a full documented history of the service throughout its lifetime. Exterior: Beautiful finish with a deep reflection in a one of a kind stunning color Merlot Rosso. Very few paint flaws in this fine example.

Interior: A dual tone black & red leather interior with red carpet. It is in great shape with light scuffs in the leather and the dashboard should be redone cause the leather had stretched. Overall a really nice interior.

Glass: Some scratches in side roll down section, front windshield is fine.

Tires: Replaced in the front but still has the P zeros in the rear, plenty of rubber on front and back tires.

Wheels: Great shape with light curb marks, easy fix.

Drivetrain: No leaks from engine or trans and no smoke when running. Clutch has been replaced and is fine, no problems shifting.

Almost $140,000 is serious money for a 1985 Countach; the seller seems rather certain that the rare fuel injection option should command such a premium. Typical values for a Countach of this era can range from around $75,000 to $115,000. While a rarity such as this car certainly should command a bit more than your typical Countach, a $25,000 to $30,000 premium at the least might be a bit of a stretch.

1989 Lamborghini Countach 25th Anniversary

One feature car visibly absent here at CICFS is arguably one of the most well recognized and visually arresting exotics ever to hit the road: the Lamborghini Countach. Designed as a follow up to the car that invented the supercar genre, the Miura, the Countach was a legend, known for it's scissor doors, raucous V12 engine and less than friendly driving experience. Towards the end of the Countach's life, a 25th Anniversary model was introduced to celebrate 25 years of Lamborghini vehicles. Mechanically similar to Countach's that preceded it, the 25th Anniversary had restyled airboxes, a wealth of body colored trim and different taillights. A total of 650 of these Anniversary models were produced until the Diablo was released in 1990.

It's had a very recent full fluid service and a new set of Pirelli PZero tires as well as new cooling hoses and drive belts. This Anniversary Edition adds the rear wing and U.S. front bumper painted red to match. Unlike the earlier cars, the 89 was upgraded with restyled and enlarged rear air boxes, the vents behind them were changed so that they run front to back instead of side to side for improved cooling. Also, a new air dam and side skirting, both with air intakes, were fitted, and the taillights were restyled to be narrower, with body-colored panels replacing the upper and lower parts of the previous large taillights. Complete with books, jack, spare tire, service records and keys.

The asking price of almost $120,000 is not unreasonable considering you are buying an almost 23 year old brand new Lamborghini. It most certainly won't be bought to be used on a daily basis, as the Countach driving experience is not as friendly as the contemporary, Audi influenced Lambos. For a kid that grew up in the 80s, though, this car was the poster child of outrageousness in the automotive world, and more than a decade on into the new millenium, nothing has changed.
