1974 Alfa GTV 2000 - GT Veloce - Restored & Beautiful. Here it is - one of Alfa Romeo's most beautiful cars - now appreciating rapidly and becoming collectors pieces.

The car has 55,000 miles and was professionally restored ~5 years ago. Rare Giallo Ocra (italian for "yellow-orange") over black leather interior. The paint is absolutely gorgeous and the interior is in amazing condition as well. Zero rust (see pics). Runs great with lots of power and recently had the SPICA professionally tuned. Original California Blue Plate. Awesome Campagnolo Chromodora wheels showing a nice patina. Beautiful original wooden steering wheel stamped "Alfa-Romeo."

This is an amazing drivers car, and these GTV's are known for their extraordinary handling and canyon carving. This is an original California car and all the hard stuff has already been done but here are some small things the car could use:

It has an oil leak (all 1970's Italian cars do)

The second gear grinds if you shift it at a high RPM (again a very, very common Alfa problem) - I drive with it like this and simply double-clutch going into second gear and it goes very smoothly. If this bothers you, for an extra $200 (!), I have a fresh transmission you can have with the car to fix this.

The tach bounces (see video) - I have an extra complete 1974 GTV gauge cluster that goes with the car to take care of this!

This car was stolen in the 1980's and issued a salvage title- a time when their value was low enough that it was easier for insurance companies to simply consider them a loss than to source the expensive Italian parts. The photos speak for themselves and there are no visible signs of damage; additionally, I have gone over the entire car with a digital paint thickness gauge.

On offer at no reserve, I would suspect this GTV will fetch somewhere between $25,000 and $30,000, given the current market. There are a few issues with this car, but none that would seriously deter an enthusiast from staying away. These are very rewarding cars to own and drive and are a great entry point into the world of (somewhat) affordable Italian classics.

When these cars were new, much like it’s sedan counterpart, the Milano, I didn’t give them much thought. Perhaps it was because I was younger or that I took for granted at the time that Alfa Romeo would be around forever in this market. In any case, if BMW E30 prices are spooking you lately, the GTV6 may just do the trick. The price of this car is a bit reaching. I’d suspect somewhere in the $10,000 to $13,000 range at best would be all of the money.

1995 Alfa Romeo 164LS

I always felt kind a bit sorry for the Alfa Romeo 164. True, it missed the rear-drive DNA from Alfa sedans of yore, but this would be the last Alfa sold in the US until the exotic 8C Competizione arrived in 2008. With its lusty V6 engine and crisp Pininfarina lines, this was a luxury sedan offering panache few other manufacturers could match at the time. Nowadays these four doors are reasonably affordable and offer an interesting choice to those seeking a mid 1990s luxury sedan on the cheap. This final year 164LS for sale in Connecticut has had but one owner and has covered a mere 25,000 miles. And yes, it has the all-important third pedal.

I’m not sure how a car like this can have such low mileage. While they were derided for their front drive architecture when introduced, they have aged to become a solid choice for those seeking a bit of driver involvement. Recently, a 164 passed me on the road and I almost mistook it for much more exotic Italian machinery due solely to its exhaust note. The fresh service, including timing belt, is certainly a plus whereas the minor cosmetic issues would be easy to resolve. The asking price of $13,500 is strong money for these, no matter how clean they are. Another, earlier low mileage 164 5-speed has been for sale for quite some time at almost $15,000. Once these 164s pass the $12,000 mark, it gets harder to find those willing to part with that kind of cash. Realistically, this car should be priced somewhere between $9,000 and $11,000. At that price point, it certainly wouldn’t last long.

Alfa Romeo began to go through some changes in the late 1980s. While the Spider continued on through a fourth generation in the 1990s, the coupes and sedans would undergo a transformation to front-wheels drive. Ultimately, an Alfa Romeo coupe would not return to the US market before the marques demise in this country in 1995, leaving this final year GTV6 for sale in Georgia as a representative of the last of the breed. These coupes have been recognized for their poise, balance and overall driving enjoyment which they provide and yet they still remain rather affordable.

Offering at NO RESERVE... a very nice one owner 1986 Alfa Romeo GTV-6 (The last year of it’s production, with improved shifting and A/C). Clean Georgia title in hand. Very rare Champagne (only offered in 86) (gold) with black pinstriped velour interior with 123,633 miles. Tom purchased this car new from my father at Paul Spruell Alfa, Inc. in Chamblee GA. This GTV-6 has been very well cared for and it shows.

It is a very original and unmolested example, cared for by an AROC member. It is equipped with the sunroof and it still has the original (working) radio. The only aftermarket modifications that I saw, were the Hella H4 low beam headlights, some MB Quart speakers and two center mufflers. No accidents... No rust. I started this car up on the first turn of the key and it drives superbly.

I intentionally did some 3rd to 2nd downshifts while the car was still cold (as cold as it gets in South GA in August) to test the 2nd gear syncro... and it is good. The engine and drive-line are smooth. When you remove the oil cap from the 2.5 liter 154 HP V-6, it looks like new inside (very clean). It is equipped with a factory catalytic converter and a has a documented history of passing Georgia state emissions test with flying colors.

The stock suspension is tight without any noise. The Michelin tires are perfect, with only 3,000 miles and the original wheels are in excellent cosmetic condition. The cooling system functions properly with both fans cycling correctly. The body is as good as it gets, with only a few trivial nicks that have been touched up. Other than a few tiny drips on the garage floor... the car has no leaks to be concerned about.

Electrical items work (windows, mirrors, lights, wipers, blower fan, gauges). The dash clock does not work. It comes with the original books, manuals, receipts (back to the delivery paperwork), spare keys, emergency window crank and a factory service manual. It has the emergency jack, spark plug swivel socket tool and pouch. Also, it has the brown plastic tool pouch with the lug wrench and pliers. So the tools are not quite complete.

Recent work:

Just done – Brake master cylinder, left rear brake caliper and rear brake pads.

May 2004 – Timing belt, tensioner & water pump. New ignition switch.

November 2004 – new clutch assembly, drive-shaft bearing and rear flex joint

Here are the important details.

The steering wheel is slightly off center to the right, however the alignment seems okay (drives straight).

A/C does not work. The last time it was charged (years ago) it did work. So... it has a leak.

Rear view mirror needs to be glued back to windshield.

Although the car has been garaged kept, the dash does have a crack near the top vent and also I did notice that the RPM needle is slightly bent.

The left front turn indicator lens has a couple of cracks, that have been taped up to keep moisture out.

The battery has also been replaced recently and the hold down bracket looks like it needs to be modified to secure the battery.

Very typical of the GTV-6.... someone tried to close the hood without pulling the prop from the locked position and bent the hood prop. So it needs to be straightened in order to work.

The gas cap key will turn the lock cylinder, but the cap will not lock.

On this model, the antenna is built into the windshield. I could see a couple of spots where it has been compromised, so don’t expect the best reception, without adding an external antenna.

It has a small tear on the drivers side seat side bolster and the usual interior felt coming loose from the door gasket (but gaskets are not torn).

The white plastic bezel around the sunroof handle needs to be dyed and the headliner is in better than average cosmetic condition.

The rear trunk/hatch logo emblem is showing its age.

The only spot of rust I found was a nickel size hole in the spare wheel floor pan. Also, the spot welds on the tow hook on the bottom of the spare wheel pan have come loose, from where it was towed at some point. But it did not bend or tear the sheet metal. I know these cars and where to look for rust. No rust under the cowl area in the engine bay, None at the front shock towers. Although, I did not remove the plastic rocker trim behind the front wheels, I could see no indication of rust.

No disappointments here. Drive this car anywhere. Once funds have cleared, you can take it. No games. Also, temporary garage storage is okay, as long as the car is paid for. Beige isn’t my favorite color choice for an Italian sports coupe, but beggars can’t be choosers when it comes to a clean GTV6. This car has a lot going for it, not the least of which is the condition, AROC member ownership and service history. The asking price is right around the range of what mint GTV6s are pulling, which is between $8,000 to $12,000. I’d expect someone to snap this one up in short order. Whoever buys it will have a blast on the back roads, tackling the twisty bits.

The Series 4 Spider and early Duettos are my favorite Spiders, but this Series 3 certainly catches my eye. Anywhere in the $10,000 to $14,000 range should be about the order of the day for a Spider in this condition with this kind of mileage.

Alfa Romeos from the 1980s are one of the cheapest ways into Italian car ownership these days. Just because they are cheap doesn’t mean they are lacking on thrills, of course. Made even more famous - or infamous depending on how you look at it - the Alfa Romeo 75, known here as the Milano, offered wedge styling, a lusty V6 and rear mounted gearbox for excellent handling dynamics. Excellent running and looking 1987 Milano Gold. The detachable face CD and radio work. The seats are great. The things that are wrong with are shown in the pictures, mainly small aesthetics like the rubber around the doors, paint on edges slightly worn, the inside door handles are both broken at the top on both the driver and side and passenger side. The lights come on when you open the door but I believe the other interior lights work but I think it’s the bulbs.

We’ve seen a few good Milanos here at CICFS that have reached towards the $10,000 mark. There’s a few non-stock items on this, mileage is on the low side for the year but overall, it’s a pretty straight example of Alfa’s last rear-drive sedan sold in the US market. The only thing I might address is the rear suspension height. US bound Milanos had their suspension raised to meet federal regulations. Euro market 75s had a lower rear ride height, specs which some Milano owners have switched to. I’d suspect a reasonable ask for a car of this caliber would be around the $4,000 to $6,000 mark.

The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione is arguably one of the most beautiful cars to emerge in the last ten years. But you wouldn’t expect anything less from the Italians, right? While the 8C is a looker, some automotive journalists, notably Jeremy Clarkson of Top Gear, took issue with the vehicle. Even though he praised the vehicle for its looks, the handling and gearbox were found to be a bit inadequate and the lap time around the Top Gear track was underwhelming. But, to buy this car solely for its performance misses the point. This is an emotional vehicle and perhaps the closest a car has gotten to being a work of art in the modern age.

Prices haven’t moved much on the 8C, but this is the first I’ve seen priced below the $200,000 mark. With only 2,500 miles on the clock, that’s not terrible for an Italian exotic that offers so much style and a great soundtrack to boot. Sure, some people might say “you could have had a Ferrari.” But for those familiar with automotive history, they’ll understand just how important the 8C Competizione is in the grand scheme of things.

1973 Alfa Romeo GTV 2000

While the Alfa Romeo Spider could be considered one of the most popular Italian collector vehicles in the US, not everyone is a convertible fan. What to do, then? How about that car’s sibling, the GTV? Introduced in 1963, this coupe lived a long live up through the late 1970s and was a popular alternative stateside to the car that made BMW’s bones, the 2002. This particular GTV is rather special, as it was owned by our reader George who has been a long time owner of Alfa Romeos in addition to being a sales agent at Mediterranean Motors, back when Alfa sold cars in this market. It is a fully documented car and is sure make for a great motoring companion for the next owner.

1973 2000 GTV Gorgeous ALFA, All original with no body modifications and no rust and no accident history. Always garaged with a car cover. The engine and gear box rebuilt with 15k miles. Approximately 9 years ago the car was taken down to bare metal and repainted with the Ferrari Yellow paint, minor blemishes.

It's One of the Best in the US....

With the Panasport wheels and yellow paintwork, this GTV does a great deal to stand out from the crowd, as you usually see these painted in red, silver, or various shades of blue. With the bumpers removed it also loses a bit of weight and lends a bit of a club sport feel to it. The seller has priced this GTV rather attractively, as late model examples in good condition can run you north of $30,000. 1991 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce. A beautiful car finished in the optional extra cost Burgundy paint. This is a factory color. This car is iin Yuma Arizona and I have owned it since 2001. This car is as good as it looks in the pictures. Everyone that looks at it loves it. As you can see in the pictures the car has been well cared for. Before I bought the car the man before installed a top of the line Alpine stereo system with navigation a remote CD player behind the passenger seat next to it is the long bass box 1 amplifier under one seat and 2 or 3 in the trunk. He also had the Panasport wheels installed which looks great and cuts cowl shake. Since I have owned it I have put about 15,000 miles on it.

When I bought I took it to Foreign Auto Menders an Alfa only specialist in San Diego and said what ever it needs do it. It needed I think only about $300.00 worth of work. All new hoses and water pump at that time just to be safe. I installed Koni shocks, a Stebro stainless steel exhaust system from Canada a very old sports car exhaust system manufacturer and it sounds great. I ordered a Squadra tuning computer chip from Holland that gives the car more low end torque. the steering wheel was replaced be the man I bought the car from and it looks great. The former owner of Foreign Auto Menders in San Diego,an Alfa only shop, said it is the most correct driving Alfa he has driven since new or better because of the wheels being lighter. Two years ago and about 3000 miles ago I had a new clutch installed and at that time I had them go through the transmission and replace what was needed. I also at that time had the cylinder head done with all NEW valve and guides. I also installed a new Bosch Fuel pump because it was starting to make noise when it hot. If my daughter said dad drive the Alfa to Florida tomorrow I would not hesitate My price is firm at $20,500.00. Call Jeff at 928-210-9246

At $20,000, this is priced considerably higher than your average Spider. Good ones can be had these days for between $13,000 and $16,000. The color is rare and Panasport wheels are not cheap, but even considering that along with the level of care, it’s probably not enough to take it beyond $16,000 to $17,000. The market for $20,000 plus Series 4 Spiders with this kind of mileage just isn’t there yet. Discounting the price, however, it appears to be a nice car and should go on to prove many naysayers wrong that you can’t have a hassle free Alfa with over 100,000 miles on the clock.

This is a beautiful 49,250 original miles 1991 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce that I have owned for almost 10 years. I am the third owner. I have kept this Alfa in our garage with a custom cover (included) for the entire time I have owned the car. I have replaced oil and fluids on a regular basis. The paint is original. I replaced the muffler two years ago with an ANSA exhaust system. I also replaced the trunk cable one year ago. The condition is immaculate as you can see by the pictures. High quality cloth top is absolutely like new (original) with perfect rear plastic window. Original tan Tonneau cover is perfect. Engine compartment very clean. No leaking oil, fluids, etc. There is no accident history, no dents, no dings. The AC could use some Freon. I am selling because...well, I am getting older and downsizing. This is the last car of a small collection I had (have an older 1984 Pininfarina that doesn't really count as the collection also for sale). I kept the best for last. I will add more information as I think of it.

I have added pictures via the above Picasa link (about 70 pictures). I note that the Alfa has all service books and records from the dealership and first owner. The Alfa has perfect acceleration/compression; everything is original, paint, etc...beautiful car. Oil changed every year (only about 1000 miles per year driven since I bought 10 years ago. To be clear, this Alfa compares or is better than the Alfas that sold on eBay in April for over $14K.

I just remembered that there is one item I should note: some disrespectful person broke the antenna off before I bought the car 10 years ago. I never replaced it because I don't listen to the radio or music with the top down. It is very easily replaced at International Auto Parts for about $82. It is completely accessible inside the trunk for replacement and would likely only take about 30 minutes to unscrew and re-install. See link for antenna.

It’s fairly common to find Series 4 Spiders with under 75,000 miles, as most were used as toys by those who had more than one vehicle. As we’ve seen with others like it, this one is worth around $12,000 to $15,000, probably on the lower end given that it is not the higher Veloce spec. For someone who wants a cheap and cheerful roadster but wants to avoid the hairdressers car syndrome of the Miata, there’s fewer options more attractive than this.
