1988 Lancia Thema 8.32

If you wanted to go fast in an executive sedan that was rear drive in the 1980s, you bought a BMW M5. If you wanted to go fast in an all-wheel drive sedan in the 1980s, you bought an Audi 200 or 5000 quattro. But if you wanted to go fast in a front wheel drive executive sedan in the 1980s, this is the car you wanted - the Lancia Thema 8.32. Outfitted with a Ferrari sourced, Ducati built 3.0 V8 channeling over 200 horsepower through the front wheels, the Thema was an unusual choice to go fast in. It was also an expensive one; the coin-counters at Lancia must have figured that if they priced it high enough, everyone would just buy it. They didn't. As a result, only around 4,000 total of these cars were produced and they were never imported to North America. Despite that, one has made its way around the world - from Italy to Japan, and then on to British Colombia where it's for sale today:

Because of their limited appeal and running costs on the Ferrari V8, these Themas haven't gained the sporting reputation of the M5, nor have they gained the accompanying market value. Despite that, this is a pretty cool and interesting alternative to the M5, Audi quattros or Alfa Romeos and fast SAABS of the same generation. You're not likely to draw a crowd, unless of course you pop the hood and rev that glorious Ferrari V8 a few times. Unfortunately, that will be difficult in this particular example as the engine is in need of repair; however, in terms of Ferrari motors this is probably one of the cheapest you can fix. Does that make it worth it? Well, if the bidding stays low - it's at around $5,000 as of writing - this could make a neat and cheaper alternative to the quickly appreciating M5 market.

1985 Ferrari 308 GTB Quattrovalvole

Magnum, P.I.. Yup, that's what you'll be called if you're found remotely in the vicinity of Ferrari 308 or 328 ownership. Yet this exotic car that was the dream of many a young man in the 1980s is one of the very few Ferraris that mere mortals can buy these days, ironically. Taking the Dino concept to the 1980s, Pininfarina managed to meld the evolutions of the 308 GT4 Dino, 365 GTC/4 and 512 BB into one package - and it worked. While the later 328 has better performance, the 308 was the one that everyone seems to remember. 1984 changes resulted in more power from the 4-valve heads, so finally the performance began to match the looks - and today's 1985 example is sure a looker: :

Recent paint and maintenance mean this car should be a trouble-free purchase, with the normal question marks out of the equation. The color combination is unusual and gorgeous; I really like the red leather interior. If you're going to go all the way, why not have something special? Because of the recent paint, overall condition and mechanical servicing, the price on this car is extremely high compared to equivalents; Hagerty places the current value only around $50,000 at most. But as with the F355 Spider from the other day, if this is the combination that you want, I'd spend a little more to get the right one - which this one certainly appears to be!

1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi

The Ferrari 308 and 328 could perhaps be considered the poster child for all things Italian and exotic. It's appearance in the popular Magnum P.I. television series solidified it's place in automotive folklore. The 308 GTSi was an evolution of the original 308 GTS and included Bosch K Jetronic fuel injection to help meet ever tightening emissions controls. This particular low mileage GTSi is an original owner vehicle with polished magnesium wheels instead of the more commonly seen painted versions.

My Dad bought this car new at Hollywood Motors an old Ferrari dealer now closed. He thought he bought an 1981 in 1981 but it was actually a 1980. This car just received a new timing belt and service from the Auto Gallery Service in Canoga Park Ca. and has only just 8,XXX original miles with the original 85 MPH factory speedo. He has just passed and thus the reason for selling the car now.

The wheels are magnesium and with magnesium to stay shiny like chrome would need to be clear coated after polishing. This was never done. The leather is a little dry as can be seen in the pictures. There is a slight whistle from the exhaust which I was told is common. Otherwise the car drives great and the A/C was just serviced and blows cold. I have a file full of records

I will require a $2000 deposit within 24hours of auction close via PayPal with remainder due with Certified funds (cashiers check) 7 days from auction close to complete transaction exchange. Please ask questions before bidding. I will facilitate shipping (at buyers expense) once funds are clear but require US bidders and US delivery only. I will not sell outside of the US. This vehicle has some private interest outside the auction and if sold I reserve the right to end the auction and cancel all bids early.

The Ferrari 308 is one of those Ferraris that tend to be used by enthusiasts and not just stored away, so finding one with under 10,000 miles is not too common these days. With the all important cam belt service and a full host of service records, this car would be a good proposition for a collector or an enthusiast looking for a fun weekend drive.

Black on Tan: 1987 Ferrari 328 GTS For Sale

This is a really self indulgent posting, but aren't they all? I was doing some Sunday morning surfing with my coffee and breakfast when I spotted this one. On one hand a seemingly pedestrian Ferrari (as if there was such a thing), but this color combo just jumped off the page at me. Check out how clean this 328 GTS is:

quote from sellers listing:

BLACK (NERO) METALLIC OVER TAN LEATHER

IMPECCABLE CONDITION INSIDE AND OUT

UNDENIABLY THE NICEST, MOST ORIGINAL 328 WE'VE EVER SEEN

THE ENGINE BAY LOOKS LIKE IT JUST LEFT THE FACTORY

THE SEATS HAVE NEVER BEEN DYED OR REPAIRED

THE DASH HAS NOT SHRUNK, PULLED, OR WARPED

THE CARPETS ARE ORIGINAL, UNDYED, CLEAN, AND AMAZING

THE AIR CONDITIONING BLOWS ICE COLD, EVEN IN FLORIDA ON AN 85 DEGREE DAY!

The 308 and 328's are often described as great entry level Ferrari's. While obviously not to be confused with Honda reliability, they are much lighter on the wallet in terms of maintenance costs when compared to the later models. And of course they resemble the Magnum Ferrari, and for a certain slice of the buying demographic, that plays...
