1971 Lancia Flavia 2000 IE

In the early 1970s, Lancia was about to embark on its three decade long rally domination with the Fulvia Coupe. This small, front-wheel drive wonder took home the WRC championship for Lancia in 1972 and would pass the baton to the Stratos that would go on to win the next three out of a total of 16 manufacturers titles for the company. Sharing a lot of the technology of the Fulvia was this car, the Flavia. What looks like a rather upright, sedate four-door hides a lot of technology underneath, including four-wheel disc brakes, fuel injection, air conditioning and a 5-speed manual gearbox. It might not be the flashiest Italian classic you can buy, but it is an amazing example of what this once proud company was capable of in terms of engineering.

"THE LAST REAL LANCIA"

The 2000 sedan kept the central part of the body (roof, doors, interior) and the entire drivetrain (except for some improvements to the fuel injection) of its predecessor, the second series of the Flavia.

The most important changes were made to the front and rear of the body where the designers reinterpreted the styling in a more modern idiom. In particular, the tail was squared and simplified, and the nose lost its separate air intake and headlamp nacelles. The mechanics retained most of the Flavia's specifications including the front-wheel drive, boxer engine, independent suspension and disc brakes all around, with vacuum-assist and split-circuits (called "Superduplex" by Lancia).

The 2000 used the 1991 cc 4-cylinder boxer engine, available in either carbureted form (115 hp) or with fuel-injection (126 hp). The latter abandoned the previously used Kugelfisher mechanical system in favor of a more reliable Bosch D-type electronic system. The transmission (produced by ZF) was a 4-speed manual-type for the 2000 equipped with a carburetor, and a manual 5-speed for the fuel-injected 2000. Since the 2000 was given a flagship role for Lancia (following in the footsteps of the prestigious Flaminia), the 2000 was given a high standard of finishes (fine wood for the dashboard and velvet or leather upholstery) and standard or optional equipment including hydraulically operated power steering (also manufactured by ZF), air conditioning, electric windows and sun blinds.

Because of the 2000s high production costs, Fiat was not in favor of putting the model into production, despite it being ready for production in 1969, which delayed its launch. But in the absence of any other new Lancia flagship models being ready, the 2000 was nonetheless launched in 1971. The 2000 was considered by many fans of the marque to be "the last real Lancia" due to the high build quality that the later models (Beta and Gamma) lacked. It was produced until 1974 with a total of 14,319 examples being made

Lancias of this period are few and far between in this country, as they were not officially imported stateside until the late 1970s. Similar vintage Fulvias in this kind of condition are bringing in the $20,000 to $30,000 range currently, so a sedan like this will probably fall a bit short of that, as they are less well known and sought after. At this price, such exclusivity is quite hard to find.

Fiat's rebirth in the United States with the 500 models and a partnership with Chrysler is a bit of a sad turn of events for the legendary company in my mind. True, it's great to see them back on U.S. shores, but when one considers some of the legendary Fiats that we've seen over their storied history, it's hard to get on board with the somewhat trendy but hardly classic new 500 and awful but strangely popular 500L. It's hard to believe that the air conditioning works on this car considering some of the older Italian car's notoriety for nothing working at all. Yet, here is a pristine, claimed original condition 130 Coupe. It's just so pretty, so advanced for the time it looks like it could have been made a decade later. The 5-speed and solid color combination make this a particularly nice option. Asking price is a bit more than a fully optioned 500, but really, which would you rather have?

1989 Lancia Delta HF Integrale

There are few cars that combine so many of my favorite things quite like the Lancia Delta Integrale. Born to race, the Delta successfully combined elements of the E30 M3, Golf GTi and Audi Quattro to create its own legacy. The box flares, all wheel drive and turbocharged engine made nearly the perfect hot hatch. For me, while the Quattro is a desirable car and I do love my Audi very much, the Lancia has always been an object of desire for me. It flies a bit lower on the radar than some of the other Group A entrants, and being newer many of the examples are still affordable; though with the E30 M3 bringing homologated race cars of this generation up in value it remains to be seen how long these classic Italian super-hot hatches will stay affordable. My suggestion is to grab one while you can!

1967 Ferrari 330 GTC – REVISIT

The 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC in lovely light blue with alloys did not sell last time around on eBay and is back up for sale. These Ferraris are quite hot items these days, with a 250 GTO about to hit auction and already being claimed to be the most expensive car ever sold. The GTC is far short of the GTO in terms of value, but with the reserve still on and bidding at $630,000, it sure isn't cheap! Still, it's very pretty to see and lovely to dream about:

When I was a young man, my father and I were at a car show with his 1927 Bentley 3/4.5 open tourer. At the show was also a late 1960s Ferrari 330 GTC. I remember the owner of the GTC was very interested in the Bentley, to the point where he offered a trade of his GTC in exchange for the Bentley. At the time, it seemed like a poor idea; the Bentley was at that point worth about triple what the GTC was, aside from being a family item which had been passed down. In hindsight, it probably would have been a very good investment if you could have predicted prices on these cars - while early Bentley prices have increased over the past few years back to the level they were at in the early 1990s, Ferrari prices have absolutely gone through the roof. The 330 GTC isn't the prettiest, fastest or most rare Ferrari - but none of that seems to matter, because it's got the right look, the right engine, and the right badge:

This model is a very pleasing color combination and condition is certainly very good. In the past four years, GTC pricing has quadrupled from around $200,000 for the best examples to just shy of $800,000 for the best examples. It really puts the 400i into perspective; a car that can be had for less than a tenth of the price of the GTC but is very similar in many aspects. While GTCs are certainly pretty to look at, I'd probably choose a 365 GTC/4 well before this model for less than a third of the price.

1976 Lancia Fulvia 1.3

For car enthusiasts in the US, waiting 25 years for a car to become legal to import can be excruciating. But dial back to the 1960s and 1970s and there’s plenty of interesting cars that are rare on these shores that you could import with zero hassles. One of my favorites is the Lancia Fulvia Coupe. For a design from the 1960s it was exceptionally clean and minimalistic and hid some advanced technology underneath, such as front-wheel drive and a 5-speed gearbox. This later 1976 Fulvia was recently imported from Italy and was recently given a respray.

Vintage Lancias, like Saabs, have always been the thinking man’s classic in my estimation. Probably not surprising, then, that Lancia and Saab created a joint venture by way of the Lancia Integrale and Saab-Lancia 600 in the early 1980s, respectively. Even with front-wheel drive, the Fulvia is a great handling classic and a hoot to drive on a rally stage. Expect to pay in the mid $20,000 range for a good Fulvia, with exceptional ones these days reaching into the $30,000 bracket.

1991 Alfa Romeo 164S – REVISIT

Back in the 1990s it took a special kind of person to buy an Alfa Romeo 164. With Alfa Romeo on its last legs in the US market, they started offering this new front-wheel drive sedan in 1991, just as Lexus and Infiniti were heating up with their smaller offerings, BMW was about to unleash a new 3 series sedan and Acura came up with a new five-cylinder luxury sedan, the Vigor. All of the above offered better reliability and a wider dealer network, but for those wanting the verve of an Italian car, only the 164 would do. And for those wanting just a bit more than the standard 164, the 164S was on tap for the sport minded individual. We featured this car back at the end of 2012 and it is back up for sale for Alfisti looking to sate their appetite until the new, promised offerings from Alfa Romeo make their way stateside once again.

Oftentimes a car manufacturer will come up with different names for the same vehicle based on the demographics of the market in which the car is being sold. Some examples include the Alfa Romeo Milano, which was known as the 75 in its home market and the Fiat Strada, which was called the Fiat Ritmo elsewhere. Alfa Romeo had a conundrum on their hands when they introduced the 164 sedan in 1990. As some may be aware, there are homophones in the Chinese language that denote certain sayings. In Chinese, the 164 meant "all the way to death." Fearing a PR disaster, Alfa Romeo changed the badge on the trunklid to 168, which roughly translated to "all the way to prosperity." A small, relatively painless change in order to avoid scaring off potential customers. There's no way of telling how this 168S got this badge here in the US market, but it appears from the Carfax report that this was a simply badge swap by the owner.

TThe 164 Quadrifoglio Verde (badged as the 164 QV) was available from 1990-1992 as the top of the range model. It featured an extended front spoiler, deeper side-skirts and a deeper rear apron. Inside, the 164 QV featured sculpted sports seats and mechanically the car featured an up-rated 3.0 12V V6 and adjustable damper settings.

The story of the 168 in Hong Kong is unique in Alfa Romeo history, and has a lot to do with the Chinese belief in the significance of numerology and outright superstition. Even in modern Hong Kong society, these beliefs continue to thrive, and while not every Hong Kong resident may personally believe in unlucky numbers, they are almost universally known by nearly everyone.

As is illustrated by the 164, in some Asian societies, the relationship between certain groups of numbers can be highly complex and go unnoticed by most Westerners. In the simplest terms, for example, the number 4 in Chinese is nearly synonymous with the word for "death." Thus, different combinations of numbers can represent different things: some lucky, some prosperous, and, as Alfa Romeo soon discovered, some which could profoundly affect sales of their cars.

In the Cantonese dialect, which is prevalent in Hong Kong, 164, when pronounced as a phase, literally means "the more you go the more you die." This had immediate and obvious meaning when taken in the context of an automobile. Alfa's Hong Kong-savvy sales representatives made an unprecedented move and quickly cabled Fiat management for permission to substitute the much-maligned 164 emblem with one now marked 168. The number 8 is perhaps the luckiest in all of Hong Kong as it is similar to the word for prosperity and wealth.

Therefore, what was originally one of the worst rear insignias imaginable instantly became one of the best: 168 means "the more you go the wealthier you'll be." The Alfa 164 was always a great sports sedan to drive but the "S" version offers even more enjoyment. In all ranges the car offers excellent performance and pulls very strong and without hesitation.

Driving the Alfa is really a pleasure. There are no signs of mechanical issues and there is no noise in the drive-line. The clutch is excellent, the transmission shifts very well, the synchromesh gears are excellent (even at higher speeds) and the car is fitted with new set of Falken Ziex 195 65R 15 91H tires and original wheels. The car steers straight, stops straight and has excellent brakes. An inspection of the underside of the car is clean and free from rust and any signs of previous repair or accidents. We encourage a review of the photos as the old adage "A photo is worth a thousand words" clearly applies in this instance! All of the electrical components are fully functional.

The trunk and engine bay are very clean and consistent with the condition of the car's exterior and interior quality and the original Alfa insignia mat is in place and in very good condition. Under the mat are the properly secured spare tire, wheel and the cars original jack.

We often times receive questions that go something like: "Does the car really look as good as it does in the photographs"? The answer in this case is yes. This car is a very attractive example of the difficult to locate 164 S Alfa Romeo with most desirable 168 badge. Perhaps most important, this is an opportunity to own a truly unique and original Alfa 168 S that offers great handling, looks and performance at a very attractive price.

It's nice that such a detailed history was given on the 164 by the seller, but little in the way of this particular vehicle's service and ownership history has been provided. Even though it has somewhat high mileage, it certainly looks to be a fairly honest 164. I was always a fan of these S models in red with the contrasting gray cladding and the tan leather has a rich look about it that few new cars these days can match.

1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia TI Super

In the 1960s, a new genre of vehicle took hold, the sports sedan. Cars like the Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 with its brutish V8, BMW 2002 with its entertaining chassis and available advancements such as fuel injection and turbocharging and Datsun 510 with its Japanese reliability and sharp lines. Then you had Alfa Romeo, with it’s Giulia sedan. Favored by Italian police, this sedan offered a cracking twin cam engine and rear mounted gearbox for optimal performance. This 1967 Giulia TI Super is for sale in Washington state isn't perfect but would make a great driver or base for someone looking to take this car to the next level.

Selling a very nice 1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super TI for a client. The car is virtually rust free, and would appear to have been a West Coast car all of its life. Well cared for and restored by its previous owner, was stripped to bare metal and what small amount of rust there was in the body was cut out and new metal welded in. Body work is very good but not perfect, some waves in the bottoms of the doors, if you look carefully... Very Good but not show quality base coat clear coat paint (PPG paint system was used).

This is a very decent old car that could use some additional tidy up and the only thing that does not seem to work is the speedometer, not really sure why. The car drives well and looks good certainly show able but not a show car. Great driver grade restoration...

The 1750 cc not original engine was rebuilt by the previous owner and runs very well. The front suspension appears to have new parts in it and it drives tight. Professionally rebuilt steering box has been installed. Owner rebuilt engine and gear box.

The price for this Giulia is quite reasonable considering the condition. The best Giulia Berlinas tend to reach into the $30,000 territory with the best glancing $40,000. This car is quite presentable and offers a new owner to use without guilt, enabling someone to experience the pleasure of an early expression of the sport sedan.

A rare triple black Ferrari Mondial 1988; the last year Mondial’s had flared fenders. Upon purchasing the car last year I decided to put a Daytona style interior all in black leather. The exterior is like new condition with blemishes shown in pictures. A very strong running car that is an absolute pleasure to drive. The top is in excellent condition with leather boot. I have the Mondial manual and a service manual that go with the car.

Upon completion of all that was added, it was entered in a local car show winning honorable mention and best interior. Below is a list of all that was added along with all the imperfections of this car. Buy with confidence as I have owned multiple exotic cars have 100% positive feedback and have been on ebay for 15 years.

Items that need attention:

· Interior dash clock does not turn on. It worked when I purchased it and recently turned off.

· The “shift” light will flicker intermittently after about 30 minutes of driving. This seems due to a short.

· Rear windows are slow in summer and in the extreme cold don’t roll down. Motor replacements are in order.

· Some windshield trim fading from wind (see pictures)

In 1989, the Mondial saw a refresh in the bodywork, with a larger 3.4 liter engine and transverse layout, improving handling. Those Mondials tend to fetch a bit higher value, leaving the earlier generations trailing a bit. This one is priced well to move very quickly, given the amount of work done to it. Sure, the maintenance may be higher than the famous sports car from Stuttgart, but Ferrari panache is hard to beat.

As our friends our friends at BlythBros. can attest, owning one of these cars can provide the owner pleasure and pain. For the days these cars run right, however, they reward you with lots of pleasure. This car is quite presentable, harboring a few issues consistent with its age and easy enough for those handy with a wrench to tackle.

Alfa Romeo often is likened to the heart and soul of the motor industry, producing cars that are sometimes less than rational as a consequence of the pursuit for sheer driving ecstasy. Even their more practical offerings have had an individualistic flair about them, witness this Milano Verde for sale in Vancouver, British Columbia. I was never too keen on these cars when they were new, but after visiting my local auto show, the sharp lines courtesy of Centro Stile Alfa Romeo are a refreshing break from the ho-hum styling of modern day sedans.

This 1989 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde is a lifetime Vancouver BC car. Mileage is approximately 173,000 km. These cars have some well documented design features and quirks, so if you aren't already aware of the history of Milanos it is worth doing a quick read on Wikipedia. This is the top-spec Verde model, with 3.0 L V6, fantastic Recaro interior, body kit, unique instrument cluster, LSD, and ABS. Verdes were quite rare with estimates of fewer than 1,000 being sold in North America during their three year production.

In general the condition of the car is good. Paint shows a few small marks. The grey trim on the sides and spoiler is the weakest point on the exterior and would benefit from fresh paint. There is one rust hole in the rear passenger wheel well, visible in the passenger door jamb (common area). There are no other rust areas. The interior is decent with the exception of the bottoms of the front seats which show wear but no holes. The headliner is sagging. The wheels have some scuffs but are straight and bend-free. Tires are getting older but have decent tread. Glass is original and good. These issues noted, the car cleans up very well and turns heads at most car meets.

Mechanically the car is good to very good, with details listed below. As can be seen in the photos, the car has not been freshly detailed but photos represent its normal state, e.g. tidy but not spotless. This car has benefited from quite a bit of attention while under my care.

Maintenance in the last two years
- Transaxle mounts (3) replaced
- Rear calipers, rear wheel bearings, and brake flex lines replaced
- de Dion bushing (poly) replaced
- Watts linkage bushings (5) replaced
- Timing belt, tensioner, water pump, aux belts, and associated seals replaced
- Clutch master and slave cylinders replaced
- Steering rack replaced
- Caster bushings replaced
- Front roll bar end links replaced
- Air inlet box, inlet hose, and MAF restored
- Floor mats replaced
- Oil pressure sender replaced

Other good stuff
- The Alfa 'Busso' has been described as one of the best sounding motors ever built. It is glorious.
- Set of 5 @ 15x7 Fondmetal basketweave alloy wheels with centercaps included with sale
- Aftermarket headers installed (brand unknown)
- OEM first aid kit included
- Box of random small spares included

Quirks (besides the well documented ones from the factory)
- ARC panel has blinky lights for brakes, oil level, brake lights and side-marker lights (but all reported functions do actually work correctly)
- Intermittent wiper setting works intermittently
- Shifting between 1st and 2nd needs a slight pause
- Limited range on the sun-roof due to the sagging headliner (works properly otherwise)

Issues
- Front passenger side window motor/regulator doesn't work reliably
- ABS warning light won't go out, and in the past pedal feel changes after a drive longer than one hour. I've had this checked at two mechanics and they haven't found a fault. Brakes work fine and the warning light could be due to a failed ABS sensor (which is no longer available). A spare ABS pump/accumulator, reported to be working, is included with the sale should buyer wish to troubleshoot further.
- Two small oil leaks present under the motor, generally only occur if the car is parked on a slope.

A lot of the major mechanical points have been addressed on this car. There are a few remaining issues, but nothing too catastrophic as to deter those handy with a wrench or friendly with a good mechanic. Those who have driven these sedans know what a great drive they are. With a throaty V6 and rear-mounted gearbox, it allows this car to stand out with performance rarely seen at this price point. These are cars that are certainly worth preserving, as they are the last Alfas designed before the Fiat takeover and the last rear-drive sedans from the company to this day.

1971 Fiat 850 Special

The 500 “Cinquecento” set in motion a roadmap for small cars from Fiat for the next several decades. From the 500, a larger 600 model was developed with a rear mounted four cylinder engine. The 600 begat the car you see here, the 850. Launched in 1964, it was available in a number of variants, including a coupe, roadster, station wagon and the two door sedan like we see here. This 850 is for sale in California, having recently been imported from the Netherlands, seemingly a hotbed for classic cars. The seller had issues registering the car in California, so is seeking to offload the vehicle to someone out of state, given that jurisdiction’s tough emissions laws.

If you require the best for your collection, this award winning 1971 FIAT 850 Special may be for you. Only a handful have come to this country. I am selling this car only because California DMV will not register it. It came from the Netherlands last July (2013). Went through customs, no problem. USEPA exempt. I thought I registered it in California because the DMV issued me license plates but after 10 months California said no to the registration because of emissions. They have not tested the car and only looked at it at the DMV to check the VIN number. Due to the fact that I cannot register this car in California, it is being marketed to out of state buyers.

This FIAT won BEST FIAT at the French-Italian car show last November (2013) in Van Nuys, California out of over 50 FIATs. This a 4 cylinder, 843cc (51.9ci) 52hp water cooled engine with an 4 speed ALL syncro transmission. Disc brakes on front wheels. The speedometer is a little SLOW. Tires are Very Good. Very low original miles for a 43 year old car. Less than 21,000 miles. Beautiful colors. Yellow with brown seats and door panels. The paint is beautiful as is the interior. Very clean and comfortable. Always garaged, cared for and maintained to the highest standards. The engine is strong, tight and pulls very good and not a bit tired. The complete undercarriage, floors and trunk are all factory original metal and in excellent condition. Runs and drives strong on the road. I live near sea level and have gone over 8500 feet in the mountains and on the freeway in 110 degree heat, no problems. It will cruise at 75 MPH, no problems. The longest trip I have taken is 400 miles, still no problems. Condition is 9.9 out of 10. Extraordinary car.

2 Minuses: The temperature gauge does not work. I replaced the sensor, still not working. Turn signal lever does not return after left turn.

The 850 was one of those in between models for Fiat. Not quite as popular as the original Cinquecento or the front-wheel drive 124 that followed it, but it went on to be licensed by a number of other companies, including SEAT. These 850s are uncommon on these shores and given the level of originality with this one, it will surely command a premium amongst aficianados. With the reserve off, we'll see where this one goes...
