1973 Alfa Romeo Berlina

A few good examples of Alfa Romeo Giulia sedans have cropped up on the market recently, and here is another one that just appeared on Craigslist Philadelphia. The Berlina was available from 1972 through 1974 and was an evolution of the earlier Giulia sedan. The styling was a bit more square and formal and more power was on tap thanks to a larger 2.0 liter twin cam four cylinder, offering more power over the entire RPM range. One feature which was derided was the new white on black on white gauges, which were hard to read for some motorists. The addition of an automatic gearbox as an option signaled a shift in the tastes of the traditional Alfa Romeo buyer. Fortunately, this example has the traditional manual gearbox.

1973 Alfa Romeo Berlina

1973 Alfa Romeo Berlina - rare, especially in this condition. Very quick and responsive. $10,500

109,859 miles. All major mechanical and cosmetic components have been rebuilt or replaced within the last couple years. All service history and receipts back to the early 1980s. Dual Webber carbs, headers, cams, electric ignition, plus a variety of other upgraded mechanical components. Runs and drives perfectly. Shifts thru all gears flawlessly. Upgraded Custom Audio radio and speakers with aux input. Originally a Californian car, where it spent most of its life. Now kept in a climate-controlled garage. Many pictures available upon request. Serious inquires only please.

I can be a bit skeptical of older Italian classic cars that have lived on the East Coast for years, but this car was sourced from California, so that puts a bit of the usual rust concerns to rest. The gray on red color combination looks very classy and suits the lines of this car well. This car is priced just about right for what it is, considering the condition.

1970 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Super

The Alfa Romeo Giulia was the quintessential sports sedan of its time and is revered by Alfisti today, as it packs a lot of character into a small package. This particular Giulia is a 1600 Super, a model which was never sold in the US. Shipped over to the US in 2006, this is believed to be the only example of its kind on these shores. Quite simply, this is one of the most original examples of a Giulia that I have ever seen.

Alfa people always recomend that you should get the best example that you can find. If you are thinking about getting a Giulia Sedan, then this would be it! A genuine 'survivor' car with 58,317 kms that has been lovingly kept by 2 owners. Alfa only made the 1600 S model for the home market and produced just 2212 units. I believe that this is the only example in the US.

Its first owner lived in Florence, Italy. He kept the car out of the elements and preserved it for 36 years. In 2006 I bought it thru a German broker and had it shipped to California. Still had her first set of tires - Michelin 165-14. After a quick clean up, I took her to the Concourso Italiano in Monterey where the car took the "Best Alfa" award out of 125 Alfas present. They had never seen such an untouched survivor. Original documents are in hand.

Since then I have kept her in great shape. New clutch, main seals, muffler, brakes, fuel pump and lines, ball joints and tires (165-14 Vredestein). She has been to many club events and shows usually winning first in class or best of show awards. She drives beautifully and easily makes a 90 mile trip to an event at freeway speeds.

The paint is factory Verde Muschio (moss green) and is 90% original. There has been a repaint on the front right fender and some touch up on the right rocker from her time in Italy. Also a minor dent in the right rear door from that time. There is no sign of chassis damage or rust.

Interior is all stock and original including the optional wool cloth seats and the dealer installed Mitsubishi AM cassette radio and electric antenna. It came with dealer floor matts in red which I saved and now wears NOS tan wintermatts from Italy. All of the rubber seals are original and in great condition. The doors open and close like new. Dealer provided key fob and spare bulb/fuse kit. Plates are repros of the original ones.

Cars like this Giulia have me contemplating selling my current ride for a practical classic such as this. I live in an urban area and drive but a few thousand miles per year, so it would be more practical for me than most individuals. Average examples of these Giulias usually run anywhere from $7,000 to $15,000, but I reckon if the reserve is met, this one will probably wind up somewhere in the $20,000 range. This example is a textbook example of a survivor.

1971 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750

The Alfa Romeo GTVs of the late 1960s and early 1970s are some of the most beloved classic Alfa Romeos. These coupes were direct competition to the BMW 2002, as they offered lively four cylinder, rear-wheel drive performance in a tidy package. In an era of muscle cars, it took a different kind of customer to buy one of these cars. One who favored handling and engineering over outright straight line performance. We’ve featured a few exceptional examples of these GTVs here at CICFS, but this example for sale in New Jersey could be best described as a driver. With a bit of rust here and wear there, it’s the perfect car for someone looking for a driver to enjoy or a solid basis for a light restoration.

1971 Alfa Romeo GTV 1750. Rare yellow exterior with black interior. 1750 CC 4 cylinder engine. 5-speed manual transmission. 36,000 miles. Runs and drives great for a 41 year old car. This is your chance to own a very original and nice condition Alfa Romeo GTV. This is the sports coupe that everyone wants. It is even more desirable and harder to find than the 2000CC version. This car is very solid with one repaint to original color. It does have some sections of rust down low that isn't that noticable, but please note in my pictures. It also does have some touchups on vehicle. The chrome is in nice shape. The interior is all orginial. The floors are solid. The carpet is in good condition. The seats have a few cracks and could be recovered to make them perfect. There is some small sections of tape right now covering small cracks. The speedometer and odometer work, but the tachometer does not.

The engine runs as it should. It sounds great with ANSA exhaust with polished tips out the back. A recent tune up including fuel filter and oil change was just performed. The brakes have a good pedal and stops great. The caliper on one brake does drag ever so slightly and may free up with more use. The tires are matching Perelli P600 all around with plenty of rubber. It is also missing one center hub cap. All exterior lights(headlamps, turn signals, and brake lights) work as they should. This is a fun car that can be enjoyed as it is, or taken to the next level with very little effort.

A decent GTV 1750 runner can range in price anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000, depending on how rust free the example is, along with mileage and maintenance performed. I would say around $13,000 to $14,000 will probably take this one, if indeed the reserve is met. If you are looking for a usable classic and the 2002 seems just a bit too mainstream, a GTV in this period shade of yellow might just be the answer.

1982 Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint Veloce

One of Alfa Romeo's most successful models was one which never saw the light of day here in the US market: the Alfasud. Constructed at a new factory in the south of Italy as part of a labor agreement with the Italian government, this compact car was quite a departure for Alfa Romeo, as it featured front-wheel drive and a horizontally opposed four cylinder engine. I've never seen one on these shores, but this one for sale in Switzerland is quite appealing, given it is a two door Sprint version and has the more aesthetically pleasing earlier bumpers.

Rare, very beautiful Alfasud Sprint Veloce 1.5, 120,000 km, 95 hp, first hand, runs perfect, no rust. New timing belt replaced, five original steel wheels with small hubcaps are included.

Notorious for their poor build quality and rust issues as a result of crude Russian steel used during manufacture, it amazes me that the seller is asking almost $16,000 USD. Good, clean Spiders can be had for less, and there a multitude of other modern classics out there which offer more bang for the buck. If this car was for sale at just under half of the asking price, it would start to look a bit more appealing, given its condition.

1988 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde

Lately we've featured several mint condition Alfa Romeo 164s, but here's a well kept example of the 164's predecessor, the Alfa Romeo Milano, or 75 as it was known in Europe. This is the last of the rear-wheel drive Alfa Romeo sedans and it is looking cosmetically tidy with just under 45,000 miles.

1988 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde

If any of you have ever read any of my post you know that I'm always in and out of the country, and now more out than in. So, I've finally decided that I can not let the Milano keep sitting in a garage, because this time I may be gone for a year or so. So about the Verde. It's an '88 with 43,743 original miles in great condition. This is not a show car but a great daily driver for anyone who wants to enjoy driving to work grocery shopping and what not.

List of things done to car (only 261 miles driven since all these things have been done):

timing belt, water pump, oil + filter changed Mobil 1, new spark plugs, rear break pads, tranny mounts
coolant flush, any rust on body has been taken care of. Brand new accumulator, brand new front and rear guibilos (flex donuts) on drive shaft replaced. Reupholstered head liner, minus sunroof panel. I still have dealership window sticker, and title shows 15,000 miles on car. And God knows how many other things I can't remember.

THE BAD:
Like I said not a flawless show car, various little dents on hood, small dent on left rear quarter, several nicks, the car, when I found it had a tire and some random things chucked in back seat, which obviously did some damage, front left shock is squeaking and front passenger seat has some wear seat (friggin' Recaro matirial) and the sun roof upholstery has fallen.

Asking $6,500 no resonable offer will be refused. PS: if buyer pays for shocks I'll put them in. Will deliver with in a few hundred mile radius as long as travel expenses are payed by buyer.

Cosmetically this car is great, but the two downsides are that it resides in New England (road salt) and that the owner says it had been sitting for a while. Still, there's not a lot of choice these days when it comes to Milanos in good condition and this example is as good as any that are out there for sale. With some attention paid to the front suspension and some reconditioning of the upholstery, this would be a fine driver and about as big of a conversation starter as any sedan could be.

1966 Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider

A number of Alfa Romeo Spiders have been featured on CICFS, but this is the first example of the Series I Duetto we have covered. Most famous for its role as Dustin Hoffman's ride in The Graduate, this roadster holds the distinction of being the last design of Batista Farina. Versus the later Spiders, this model is revered for its design purity, notably the boat tail rear end. This particular example for sale near Hartford, Connecticut has had the same owner for the last 32 years and has the larger 1750 engine.

1966 Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider. VIN: 660229. 111,667 Kilometers (69,360 miles)

HISTORY:

-European model. Privately imported by an American service-man.
-Same meticulous owner since 1980.
-Expertly repainted in 1997, with all trim removed, in original red.

MECHANICAL:

-Engine was replaced with a 1750cc unit
-5-speed manual gearbox
-Brakes upgraded from Dunlop to ATE all around
-No oil leaks
-Car runs and drives well
-When the car sits for extended periods of time, there is a slight hesitation when accelerating. This problem clears up when the car is being used regularly.

BODY/EXTERIOR:
-Very straight sides
-Convertible top in excellent condition
-Solid underneath
-One small rust spot on lower right rear quarter, in front of wheel well (see photos)
-All trim and brightwork is ‘driver quality.’ That is, it’s all presentable but not show quality. The door handles, in particular, are pitted and need to be re-chromed.

INTERIOR:
-Original black vinyl in great condition, showing only moderate signs of wear (see photos)
-Dash is gorgeous!

Overall, the car is a very nice, original, driver that has been sympathetically maintained by the same meticulous owner for 32 years. Pre-purchase inspections are both welcomed and encouraged.

This is not a concours ready Spider, but it appears honest and would be a good starting point for a first time Alfa Romeo buyer that might want to do some tinkering or freshening up. It would also prove an attractive buy for the enthusiast seeking a driver that they can enjoy without the guilt of devaluing an expensive restoration job. Average values for Duettos are concentrated in the mid $20,000 to low $30,000 range. I would suspect a final bid of around $15,000 to $20,000 would represent a good buy.

1991 Alfa Romeo 164

If you missed your chance at buying a brand new Alfa Romeo 164 about twenty years back, here is your second chance. We have featured a few low mileage 164 sedans here at CICFS, but none with mileage this low. This particular car for sale in Philadelphia is the base 164, with cloth interior. This is a seldom seen trim level, as the more common 164 models sold in the US market were the upgraded 164L and 164S.

You are looking at a very rare super low mileage Alfa Romeo hat has been well kept and maintained; it's an all around great looking vehicle. The vehicle was barely driven and looks amazing. This is a-never-smoked-in beauty that looks and smells great. The cars exterior is white that has got a deep sparkling shine to it. The exterior is in good condition. The interior is gray cloth that looks new. The console and dash look great as well!

The engine sounds, runs and feels smooth and provides abundant power. The 5 Speed Manual transmission shifts well - smoothly and easily. We make an effort to test for any electrical problems and none were found on this vehicle. The engine compartment looks clean, and void of any leaks. Great running condition vehicle! The A/C works well and blows cold air! We had our mechanic check the car and no problems were found with it. All in all, the car really runs great!

As you can judge for yourself from the pictures - the interior is clean and looks great! The trunk has many functions, one of which is obviously the superior cargo capacity. The back seats come down in case you need to increase the payload capacity. The trunk is very clean and roomy as you can see from the pictures. The previous owner used it sparely and it looks as if it were new. This is a unique one of a kind vehicle, that is painted with a color that really makes it stand out in the crowd of other cars. It's been garage kept, and is in good condition.

Having passed through three owners, it is almost a stroke of luck that any 164 could be preserved to such a high level. The one thing that detracts from this car is the engine bay, as the cam covers are oxidized, no doubt a result of spending time in the northeast. A bit of chrome polish on the intake manifolds and a freshening to the cam covers would put the finishing touch on this car. The asking price of $20,000 is very steep, even considering the fact that this may be one of the lowest mileage 164s in existence. Realistically, this car might command $12,000 to $15,000 at the high end on a good day. Most well-kept examples with fewer than 100,000 miles can range these days from $6,000 to $10,000, give or take.

1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super

The Alfa Romeo Giulia is one of those sedans that defined a segment in the 1960s. When it was introduced in 1962, it was one of the most aerodynamic vehicles on the market, even if it’s upright, boxy shape suggested otherwise. With a curb weight of around 2,200 lbs. and twin carburetors featured on the Giulia Super, this was a 100 mph plus car in an era where some sports cars weren’t even capable of that figure. This car, then, forever transformed people’s ideas of what a four-door vehicle could be capable of. This Giulia Super for sale in Washington looks very well kept and from underneath looks very solid and free of rust.

1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super. It's the 50th anniversary of Giulia. Here is a chance to own part of this historic celebration. A fine example of this celebrated model. The Giulia Super is always included in the lists of all-time great automobiles. Stock and unmodified except for the desirable upgrades of the 1750 motor with veloce cams, Koni shocks and adjustable upper control arms.

It has rebuilt suspension, rebuilt transmission and fresh motor. New imported Italian factory upholstery and carpeting, new, original headliner (there's a name for the pattern, but I forgot it) new windshield. Original dash board with a rare, original, radio block-out plate. Good examples of these cars do not come on the market very often, and this is a very decent old car.

This is a great driver grade restoration, starting with a mostly straight virtually rust free California car. The car belongs to one of my friends who is also a client. He has asked me to help him sell the car. Below is his description, I am happy to answer any and all questions regarding the car, so feel free to ask. While a car that anyone would enjoy owning the new owner may want to enhance this great starting point further to make it more showable. Most of the work on this car has been carried out over the last couple of years. Car is Ivory with dark gray interior. Shows 78227 miles on the speedometer, which I believe could be correct.

Guilias of this vintage in this kind of condition are hovering in the $12,000 to low $20,000 range. If I had to guess, this car may being a little upwards of $15,000. Overall, this is a very nice example of someone looking for a vintage Alfa but seeks something outside of the Spider norm.

1991 Alfa Romeo Spider

Summer is coming, so what better time than to consider a sporting little roadster? Preferably an Italian one. We love the Series 4 Alfa Romeo Spider here at CICFS, and this example for sale in Arizona has had but one careful owner and has covered a scant 52,000 miles in 21 years.

1991 Alfa Romeo Spider

This '91 Alfa Romeo Spider is absolutely beautiful, all original. This is a one owner car, owned by a mature woman since new. The car has never been abused, never driven in winter, garage kept and always maintained. There has never been any paint or body work done on this vehicle. The interior is in perfect condition. I want to stress that everything on this car is original. Everything works including all gauges, switches, original radio, remote rear view mirrors, door locks etc. The air conditioner blows very cold and the heater works as new. All the original books and service receipts and tools, including the “Alfa” tire pressure gauge are included. The engine and transmission work as new. The alloy wheels are in new condition. ALL ORIGINAL, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT! COLLECTABLE!

I've noticed prices are creeping up a little for these cars, the last of the classic open top Alfa Romeos. While this is a base Spider, there's not much difference in value between this trim level and the uplevel Veloce. I would wager to say anywhere between $13,000 to $15,000 would be a reasonable estimate for this pristine example.

1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal

The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione may have seemed a bit far fetched when it appeared for sale in the US in 2008. The last new Alfa Romeo to be sold stateside was the 164 sedan, which was a competitor to the mid-sized luxury sport sedans of the world. However, this wasn't Alfa Romeo's first foray into eight cylinder sports car territory. The Montreal was originally introduced as a concept vehicle at Expo '67 in Montreal, hence its name. The ironic thing is, it was never sold in the city which bore its name. A version to comply with North American emissions requirements was never developed. With its two litre V8 engine derived from the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, this was no ordinary sports coupe. From it's retracting slatted headlamp covers to the vents behind the doors, this was a wild looking machine for the era. This example is for sale in Sweden, not far from the border with Denmark.

1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal

The Alfa Romeo Montreal is a very nice GT car. This one is in very very good condition and ready to drive anywhere. There is absolutely no rust on the car and the paint is fabulous. Great power and sound from the engine. A lot of money has been spent here recently. Very original and unmolested car. Could be the best on the market today.

At almost $47,000, this represents the high end of the Montreal market. This one, however, is original and well sorted, which is important with these cars, as they can be a tad finicky, especially when you consider the complex SPICA fuel injection system. Overall though, a nice example of one of Alfa Romeo's most exotic efforts to date.
