2006 Maserati Coupe GT Ferrari V8 engine manual silver track car

2006 Maserati Coupe GT Project

We are not serious drivers here at CICFS. We enjoy driving on the track enough to visit once a year, and for us that is plenty. It seems that every spring when the Alfa Romeo Owners' Club track day is approaching, we have some sort of tricky issue with our Milano that has us rushing to get the car track-ready. And every time that happens, we joke about just bringing the Maserati to the track.

Now, one of these years when the tires on the Maser are due for replacement, we'll make it onto the track. We're in no rush though. The Coupe is an odd car to bin into any single category. It's certainly not a sports car, lacks the power of a muscle car, and it doesn't ride well enough to be a useful GT. It's probably best described as a sports sedan with two doors, then. In any case, it doesn't beg to be driven fast, but with the willing V8 underhood and the beefy manual transaxle between the rear seats, it would certainly be enjoyable to drive at speed.

This 2006 Maserati Coupe GT is a desirable 6-speed manual example finished in silver over black with 34000 miles from new. The previous commissioned Ted Taormina at Taormina Imports in San Carlos, California to tastefully modify this car to improve on the stock platform. Alterations include FormulaDynamics ECM and Drive-By-Wire modules, Sport Performance adjustable coilovers, performance air filter, upgraded sway bars, and Veloce Corsa 19” lightweight wheels with Vredestein UltracSessanta tires. All upgrades cost around $15k and have reportedly improved the handling and performance. unfortunately the next owner tracked it and hit a wallI bought the car to use a project. We're happy to see that the previous owner of this car brought it to the track, though it's too bad that they banged it into a wall. How difficult will this be to repair? We can't say how badly the chassis was tweaked, but if the damage were limited to the front and rear fenders, as well as the entire driver rear corner of suspension, there would be plenty of hope for the car. Exotic recyclers should have the sheetmetal to piece it all back together.

Our move would be to sell all of the aftermarket components that are in good condition to recoup some cash. It seems that selling the upgraded suspension and wheels might be difficult though, due to damage seen in the collision. We'd probably even consider selling off the interior and seats and running a dedicated track seat. And with all of the bodywork, we'd ditch the tasteful silver for a good yellow.
