When we moved from the BMW e30 world to the world of Alfa Romeo Milanos, we thought that finding a Milano Verde would be impossible. It turns out that Verdes come up for sale pretty often, so it's not necessary to snatch up the first one that comes up for sale. Alfetta sedans, or Sport Sedans, are much more rare in the US. The condition of those cars that do come up for sale varies widely. So today, we are happy to feature a very nice low-mileage Sport Sedan.
Technically the Sport Sedan was the predecessor to the Alfa 90; the Milano was preceded but the Nuova Giulietta, a sedan based on the Alfetta chassis, but featuring a shorter height and length than the Sport Sedan. In the US, we didn't get the full model range offered to the rest of the world, so our succession of sedans went Sport Sedan, then Milano, then 164.

GR Auto Gallery is pleased to bring to market this stunning 1979 Alfa Romeo Alfetta Sports Sedan. The car underwent a complete body 8 month restoration, windows out, no rust, all original car by a local Professional body shop. The finish 5 coats of Argento [Silver] exterior was a perfect complement to the Custom full Cuio tan leather interior with contrasting gray piping that was professionally recently redone.
The original owner was an elderly Italian man from North Minneapolis who took exceptional care of his car to the point where the car had never been driven in rain nor snow!
The current owner has only driven the car aprox. 449 miles since it was bought in, 2009, and put it safe storage for 2 years. The current owner is president of a Alfa Romeo Owners Club. The current owner then brought it home to his climate controlled garage and every time he drove it it was dry outside, staying true to original owners strict rules 'No Rain'. No rain or snow exposure on this 42 year old, rust free Italian beauty.
The 2.0L 4 cylinder engine runs excellent and the 5 speed manual transmission functions as it should. Recent mechanical refurbishing, includes the whole fuel system from tank to completely rebuilt Del'Lorto carburetors, using original parts imported from Germany, correct fuel pressure pump, installing toggle switch to power the fuel pump reliably -as a work around, for an ignition that can not be replaced.
We can't tell if this was a European model that was imported to the US or if is a US model that was converted from SPICA to carbs. SPICA cars require certain attention, but we prefer when SPICA cars are kept original, though the engine certainly does look better with dual carbs and the associated air cleaners.
We don't see low-mileage Sport Sedans like this come up for sale often. Factor in the easy life that this Alfetta has lived - no rain, no snow - and it is certainly an appealing example. We like the custom interior, and to be frank, we don't have a strong attachment to original Sport Sedan interiors. So much wood veneer. The asking price is another subject altogether, and we won't tread there other than to say that outstanding cars aren't always priced in line with other examples of a particular model. With Spiders going for $15-20k all day, we don't really see the issue with springing for such a rare Alfa sedan.
